Well the food is great! But the PRICE!!?!?! This place is Expensive!! I’m all for paying for great food and great service, but WOW!!$70 with a descent tip for 2 people for breakfast is pretty crazy.

While visiting Calgary I was recommended this place by a couple friends and family. And it did not disappoint. First off, the ambiance is great, clean, trendy, and cozy vibes. Second, the coffee is bottomless and delicious! Dark, dreamy roast, with just the right amount of depth and natural sweetness! Third, and most important, the food! I ordered eggs benny with smoked salmon, it came with a side of fruit and some hash browns. The hash browns were a mix of sweet and white potatoes, and they were a delicious side to an amazing eggs benny!

This place is actually open for dinner. Skip it and just come for breakfast only. Came for wife’s dinner but I shouldn’t have booked here. Took a bit longer than usual to get a Burger and braised beef rice. The braised beef was nice but rice was flavor less and was a non starch rice not cooked enough. Burger patty was burnt and yam fries seemed like they were not double fried so they were mushy. Service is good. I give dinner a 1 star but I know they can do breakfast pretty well and breakfast is a 4 star. Going to somewhere else after to get some actual dinner lol

First time there…was very disappointed, food was small portion and expensive, very oily food not enough selection. we were a group of 7, all got sick from eating there. Would not recommend anyone.

First time here and the food is delicious! I had the perogies (it’s so good but also super unhealthy with the bacon and that delicious sauce base!) My friend had the hashbrowns with eggs and sausage (I tried some and it’s really delicious too). We were there Sunday morning around 10:30 and the place was packed (both inside and at the patio). We saw the fondue menu and really curious, so we ordered the sampler platter fondue (with 3 different types of chocolate) even we were not hungry anymore after our main dishes. The matcha and earl grey chocolate were really good but we did not care much for the yellow turmeric (just personal taste). Overall it was really delicious food, but it’s not 5 stars because of the high price tag. For the 3 plates we ordered plus a tea and a coffee, the bill came to about $70 before tips for a brunch with 2 people. It’s true we ate a lot (lol) but it’s definitely not cheap eats here. We will go back though (perhaps just not all the time lol) because the food is delicious.

We were so excited to finally try out Monki Bistro but were very disappointed. We went on a Wednesday at 10:30 and the place was pretty much empty (which was great because we were planning on chatting together for a long time anyways). I usually get bennies every time I go for brunch but decided to get something different. I chose the breakfast poutine and my friend got the brisket and sausage hash. I noticed right away that her portion looked tiny and there wasnt much meat. Also, our idea of a hash is usually potatoes and other ingredients all mixed up then topped with eggs, this was a bit more deconstructed – just potatoes with some toppings. My portion was a decent size. We both remarked right away that the potatoes tasted like cinnamon or nutmeg and it was weird. Im sure thats their special ingredient to set them apart, but we didnt care for it. My meal was going ok while I was eating the top of it but once I cleared off the top I saw that the bottom 1.5 of my bowl was a pool of grease. It covered the bottom layer of potatoes. To be honest Im usually ok with grease, but when I tried a potato that had been soaking in it I almost spat it out. This grease had no flavour at all, it was just bland and slick and oily. So when our server came to check on us we pointed out the pool of grease in my bowl and she just said that sometimes that happened with the ground beef, it sometimes releases a lot of oil in the bowl. We said regardless, it was pretty gross and half my meal was inedible. She said shed take it back to the kitchen and asked if I wanted anything else, I didnt so I said no thanks. We stayed there for awhile and had a few drinks, the Caesars were good and the iced coffee was ok (although offering simple syrup as a sweetener would be much better than the brown sugar crystals that dont dissolve in iced coffee) and then asked for our bills. When the server gave me mine she said that she had put a discount on my bill for my entree although it was not Monkis policy because with the dish I had gotten since it had ground beef sometimes it can be greasy. It was such a bizarre way to address the issue. She could have just said she applied a discount to my entree because it was not up to Monkis standards and left it at that. I would have been willing to overlook it if thats what she had said. Instead we walked out of there with puzzled looks on our faces and said Welp. Not going back there again! Maybe they should put a screen across the bottom of their bowls so the ingredients stay safe from the grease pool at the bottom of the bowls!
