Had Taiko Taco for lunch in the summer. Personally not a fan of fried foods within a bao- taco – if you don’t eat it right away, you risk the chance of the taco being soggy. The fries were good though. Overall expensive and I was hungry in a matter of hours.
Aw mannnn, I hate to give a bad review…I was totally rooting for this place. I’ve been wanting to try this truck for a long time, and finally got the chance to today. Went to the Taco Food Fest thing in Sunnyside, and ordered 3 sets of tacos, the fries, and the mini donuts. Go hard or go home as we say. Came to $46. Pricey lunch for us, but we were reallllly excited. First off, everything looked really nice. Presentation was definitely up on the list, and we were excited to dig in. But, the portions were really pretty small. I mean they look like mini tacos in the photos/Insta, but they really are tiny little things, and I’m actually glad we did order 3 kinds. Pork belly was by far the best one, one small slice of pork belly per taco though. I liked the spicy/salty sauce they used, and it was cut nicely with the cold carrot slaw on top. Delicious? Yes. Worth $12? Nah. Mango shrimp was okay. I only ate one, and let my cousin eat the other two. I didn’t like that thick batter on the shrimp… I think I preferred the chili chicken over the mango shrimp. Overall, pork belly was the best!On to the fries – I was so excited to try these, the portion was huge, and the sauce is delicious, but it was really greasy. Anywhere the aioli touched on the cardboard container thing, immediately greased up. Awesome? Yes. But I needed a nap after eating a handful of these. They were a heavy side, and I definitely recommend sharing.Last but not least, the mini donuts. Ugh, hated these. They were SO greasy, and dark brown from the frying. And fried to a crisp. Good portion, but only a few of them still had a soft bite in the centre to them like a donut. Otherwise, they were just crisped too much like sweet cinnamon chips. Disappointed. We had one and a half each, and threw the rest out. :(.Overall, disappointed. Food all looked beautiful (apart from the donuts) and Instagram worthy, but not sure I’d come back in a hurry. The pork belly are definitely a must try though – at least that!PS: Was hoping you’d have the kimchi tots that I saw on the website, but they weren’t there. Hope to see them in the future, that would definitely lure me back to try!
A couple years ago, I had the loaded fries, don’t recall what they were called and they were awesome. Then I had them again at the Folk Festival. Nostalgia not withstanding, they were terrible. I was the only customer, and yet the fries were soggy, with Kraft dressing and deep deep deep fried popcorn shrimp – nothing left of the shrimp except the casing.
Pork belly tacos were DELICIOUS today. Wanted more. Maybe a bit pricey but the quality is there. Crispy pork belly, fresh bun, crunchy veg and a nice acidic bite from the green sauce. Yum. Will be back.Oh, and they were super quick!
Wow! I’m soo impressed and this was well worth the wait. Taiko Taco has been on my bucket list to try forever. I’ve always missed them. Finally they were right by my work so I couldn’t not go get some. My girlfriend and I went for lunch today. They were slammed in the beginning. Some guy ordered 20 boxes to go. When it was finally our turn we were excited. They apologized for the wait too. We shared pork belly and spicy fish bao + the spicy Korean fries. Oooh sooooooo gooooood! Loved the fries and pork belly bao the most. I am soo satisfied and still craving more. lapetitteshar.com
Good, but grossly overpriced.. Title says it all, nothing wrong with the food, but 2 things:A) all 3 tacos for $12 have to be same. Seriously?B) Teeny tiny portions. For $12, you get 3 pathetically small Tacos. The Pork belly especially. One piece of Pork Belly per taco. Never again.
Fantastic quality food off of a truck. Well worth the $12 for 3 tacos. The spicy fries had way too much salt on them (I’ll just ask for less next time). Pork belly tacos = yum!18 Sep, 2014Spicy Fries. Just ask for less salt!
