Last Friday, my boyfriend took me Downtown. We had Tubby HotDog for lunch. Tubby Hotdog is a small fast food restaurant. It is located at 17 Ave SouthWest Calgary. It sells hotdogs and some beers. We arrived the restaurant around 12 pm. The restaurant was very busy and had a line upat the front desk. But, the line moved fast. After waiting for 5 mins, we began to order ourfood. I had the Japanese StyleSUMO,which includes Japanese mayo, seaweed salad, wasabi, pickled ginger, lightly toasted sesame seeds. My boyfriend had orderedTUBBY DOG,which made with Homemade chili, bacon, cheese, onions, mustard. Also, we hadPOUTINE and pop Drinkto share. After that, we waited for our food for the while. The hot dogs were very well cooked. The taste of them was very different from each other. Sumo hot dog was Japanese hot dog. Classic Tubby hot dog was like chili cheese hot dog. They were all in the huge portion. The poutine was decent, but nothing excited. The prices of food were a little bit expensive. Both hot dogs were $8.50. The poutine was $7.50. The fountain drink was $3,00. In summary, Tubbydogwas decent fast food restaurant. food.belindajin.com
Love going to this place. So many unique types of hotdogs you can have. Very retro theme. Parking is a bit of a pain that 17th Ave has limited parking or you have to park far and walk.
Ate there for lunch today and didnt like anything about it. The hot dog was super hard and dry. The chilli was nit that good at all. Tiny bit if swiss cheese on top. My girlfriend had the a bomb which has nacho cheese and cereal on it. It was better but still not that good. Dog father is way better. Maybe cause im always drunk when i have it but who knows.
Great late night eats, affordable and delicious.Cheetah dog is by far the favorite and of course the features are always amazing.Arcade games and late hours make for a good snack!
Walked by this place a hundred times, first time I have been there though, I like a good hot dog especially on a hot evening with not much to do, there were 4 of us, and there was a fairly good sized line up , but still only took about 10 minutes to get to the front to order, and about 15 minutes to get the order, not to bad considering the line up, the place is rather worn and smokey, but it kind of fit the atmosphere , I like the fact they cook the dogs on a griddle rather then on rollers or steamed, they had a very nice flavour, I had the Harlo which had lots of bacon and cheese, they weren’t cheap, but I would assume a 17th avenue street front location does not come cheap and they probably have to pay through the nose for rent and at 8.50 plus for a dog they still have to sell a lot of them, I enjoyed it and will certainly be back.
Big and Sloppy Goodness. I had the Slaw Dog and enjoyed it. I wouldn’t say it was out of this world, but it definitely hit the spot. The coleslaw was really tasty and the pickles combined with it and the chilli was pretty solid. I also tried the T-Rings and can’t say I’m a fan of those. They needed a lot of salt and were kinda bland. They were quite big – verging on the size of donut, but the batter wasn’t crispy enough, some being a little soggy even. (We did get the food to go, so maybe better if you eat it quickly in store?) I actually soaked my last one in the reminder of my toppings from the Hot Dog that fell out, to give the ring more flavour. I think I would come back to try another Dog in the not too distant future.
