Your standard Chinese bakery. The space is small so their offerings are a bit more limited than other bakeries. Some decent offerings, but I would say that Garden Bakery is a bit better.

Cute little bakery in Chinatown. It had all the generic Asian bakery goodies. I had a chestnut mousse dessert as well as a red bean pastry both were decent.

[At taste of Edmonton] My first target was a green onion cake. Ever since I moved to Edmonton, people won’t shut up about green onion cakes. While I have had similar before, I’ve never head the cake variety. I grabbed one for 3 tickets from the Hong Kong Bakery, and proceeded to get really confused when they had sour cream on hand. I guess it works, but it still seemed weird to me. Someone I went with told me it was to cool it down as it also comes with hot sauce, but I don’t see the need. Whatever reason, I tried it in all ways but preferred it plain. The cake itself was crispy with a soft inside, and the flavours were nice, but I still don’t understand why everyone in this town is so crazy for them. I’d love to have it as part of a meal, to wipe up a plate, or work with something else, but on it’s own, it’s alright. lowercrust.wordpress.com

Super crammed inside… I had to squish myself in there just to order anything… that and I had to call out to someone to get the buns for me and it got annoying real fast because I couldn’t see from far away… and the buns weren’t all that memorable… waste of my time.

Garden Bakery was always my regular place, but I might switch! Buns are very fluffy and dough is soft and sweet. Egg custard is soft and not rubbery. Go early, because I went at 4 pm and they were out of a few items.

Great breakfast option. When all the main dim sum restaurants in the Kingsway area are packed and you can’t wait, the Hong Kong Bakery is a great breakfast option. As a shop selling traditional Chinese pastries like tarts and buns, this bakery has a decent selection that all taste pretty great. The pineapple bun was crunchy, the coconut bun had a creamy filling, and while not overly stuffed, the pork and chicken buns had nice sweet meats in a sweet bun.On the way in or out of Edmonton, this bakery is a great place to grab a quick snack.
