Urban Shabu is permanently closed now but in my experience with it, it deserves to be. They treated my group poorly. Only gave us one plate of meat to start between 12 people as they didn’t want us to waste food by not finishing it. One plate. Really? And then no food for over fifteen minutes? And the cockroaches. Oh man.

Urban Shabu is your regular run-down hot pot restaurant in Edmonton. Below average food served in a below average environment. The price, at almost $29 per person, is highly questionable.

I’m not quite sure what to say about this Hot Pot restaurant. First of all we had a Groupon voucher, which is nice, but in reality it’s somewhat of a scam. You only save $13 in total. Check it out.The basic charge is pretty much $29.00 (yikes) per person for the all you can eat. There are some small additional charges that can apply which will increase your final bill. So the Groupon really means a very minor saving. It was just okay and would I come here again?…..never…..but it was a great one time experience. I gave them a real low rating because the Groupon confusion. On a side note; I gave a beautiful ring to my best friend when we were there.

Pricing is about the same for every hot pot place. Urban shabu charges $25.95 for each person. I like coming here because they have individual pots. Also I like how they have a section for the dessert- they are the only hot pot restaurant that lists their desserts & it’s unlimited as well . Service here can be on and off. I came here on my birthday a year ago with around 15 people, service was terrible. We had to repeat orders a lot and never got what we ordered. Came for lunch once for the special I think it was around 12$ it was the usual pick 5 items. It was cheap and good.

Came here for lunch and wasn’t able to use my groupon because I wasn’t eating AYCE. They didn’t honour my groupon even though I met the conditions in the fine print. Food wasn’t extraordinary but tasted okay. They sometimes mess up your order and wind up with part of someone else’s order.

This is long over due, but I’m giving this place a 2.5 because our experience was horrible! I’ve been coming here ever since they were opened, but I feel so Unassuring with the food now.We came on a Thursday night and half way through our meal, we had a little buddy entertain us. I don’t know if it was a water Beatle or a croackroach, but it bolted across the table. I don’t know if it was in the vegetable or fell down from their roof, but I am definitely not coming back!We didn’t receive a discount or anything, but we were pretty disgusted. Left right after and definitely never looking back.

Not too bad for an all you can eat hot pot buffet. The quality of the meat was average and the portion sizes were a bit on the small side. One negative was the two hour time limit especially since the orders took 20-30 mins at times to come out. On a positive note, they had a large selection of sauces to choose from.
