I knew it would be bad. Couldn’t help myself. I get hungry shopping at the mall, and Chinese just is where I want to go. First of all, this annoying trend in Calgary. One price for steamed rice, another higher price for fried rice and yet a higher price again for noodles? I hope this pricing scheme doesn’t spread. Are there any North Americans that actually eat plain steamed rice given the choice? Soggy everything including the ginger beef and the orange chicken. Pleasant server, who provided sweet & sour sauce when requested, in a side cup. $9.75 or so paid. $4.25 eaten. Bleah.
I used to love eating here, their food would always taste good no matter what. That was three years ago. Nowadays, the quality in the food is lacking, it is more overpriced and lesser quantity is given for the combos. Sadly, I have to say that this is my last time eating here. I will try again when it is less overpriced, or when the food starts tasting as good as it used to.
Very poor quality food. The orange chicken was soggy and had no crispiness to it. The sauce on the chicken just tasted weird (not how it is supposed to) The chow mein noodles were flavorless and bland.
New Year’s day shopping and lunch. We tend to shy away from Boxing day sales as the crowds can be daunting. Since not too many shops are open on New Year’s day, we decided to see if there was still any boxing day specials to be had at Chinook. After abit of shopping, we decided to head for lunch. I picked Manchu Wok (again), and the first thing I noticed since my last review was a revision in their menu. Yes, there was a price increase, however that didn’t bother me as much as how the prices increased : if you wanted a main like rice, and 2 items, it was around $8 (approximate); but if you wanted fried rice and 2 items, it cost more, and fried noodles was the most expensive. The way it was setup resembled a tier pricing system.I am hoping this is an exception rather than the norm, as most fast food mall chinese places let you pick fried rice or fried noodles and then 2 items, same price.Since we headed to lunch 45 min after they opened, items were still pretty fresh. I despise ginger, but I did like how they had bits of real ginger in the ginger beef (sauce), and the sweet and sour pork still retained some of its crunchiness despite sitting in the sauce. On the other hand, not a fan of their new pricing scheme.24 Mar, 2013Typical chinese mall food. Decided to do some shopping at Chinook (bright and early when they first open, to avoid the crowds). Nearling 11 am (Sat), the mall still wasn’t too overly busy, which is a bonus – that meant the food court wasn’t busy also, so we decided to have lunch. My appetite (and partly my wallet) pointed me towards Manchu Wok, as they had a special, fried rice or noodles, veggies (broccoli, cabbage, carrots), and sweet & sour pork – including a pop – for $8.99.Not bad, as that seemed to be the going rate for a lunch meal at the food court (maybe slightly more at the other vendors). The sweet and sour pork were sitting in a wok (no doubt just for show purposes), while the other items were in a steam pan.I received generous amounts of food, no complaints there. Since it wasn’t busy I was in/out in a matter of minutes.First off, the food was between luke warm and cool. Not quite appetizing. The sweet and sour pork had been sitting in the sauce too long, as the breading had dissolved, plus there were small bits of breading, so I wasn’t too sure how many pieces of pork I actually received. The veggies weren’t bad, more on the soft side due to the fact that it was sitting in the steam pans. The noodles weren’t anything to write home about; instead of the thin ones they used a more medium sized noodle.Overall, it did fill the hunger, but it quickly became a meal forgotten. What can I say ? Manchu Wok is just your typical chinese mall food.
Excellent Chinese Food. I have been a customer of Chinook Manchu Wok for years. Never been disappointed with the customer services and the taste of my favourite entrees: Orange chicken, ginger beef, ginger chicken…etc.Manchu Wok’s Chinese food is definitely a better choice if customers have read the fact that a 14-year-old hamburger free of mold from those Branded Burger Makers.
Horrible. The pork was okay, but my veggies and shanghai noodles were soooo soupy, soggy and tasteless. Never again.
