I did takeout from Golden Village last week as they’re just down the street from our condo.$80 later, the food arrived, and we ate maybe a third of it.The dumplings were very good (juicy, good flavor, not under or over cooked) but that was about it.Overall everything was very lacking in flavor and seasoning. Normally I’ll load up on ginger beef as it’s my favorite, but there was little to no beef inside the strips of fried batter, and the sauce was remarkably bland. The palace style chicken was no better in flavor, and again there was just so much batter and very little meat inside. Both dishes just had an overwhelming taste of over-used oil and no amount of sweet-spicy sauce was going to help these dishes – not that the sauce was either of those two qualities. The ginger squid was the same as the ginger beef in that there was very little meat and a lot of batter, but I found the ginger squid sauce to be the best of any of the sauces we received. We ended up putting it on everything else to try and salvage the meal, but it didn’t help much. The BBQ pork was so dry that it was hard to tell if it was even meat. No juicy, sticky BBQ pork was to be found whatsoever. That was probably the most disappointing part of the whole meal. The whole tin of bbq pork had maybe 4 pieces missing, and they didn’t even get fully eaten. The noodles (shanghai style BBQ pork noodles) were okay, but the veggies were honestly the hit of the dish. The BBQ pork in the noodles were seemingly taken out of the BBQ pork dish we ordered, and were just as dry and terrible, even with the sauce on the noodles.I have never thrown out as much food as I did that night. We will definitely not be back, I cannot reconcile spending that much money and throwing out that much food again.
My family has been eating here for over 40 years and we have never had any major problem. People need to understand its family run and owned but we always have a great experience.
Cindy. I have been eating the chinese food from here for over 30 years, and now that I have moved away I still come back to Calgary and have to have it.Best chinese food ever….
Disappointed and feels ripped off. I normally don’t write reviews but after high hopes and feeling ripped off I felt I had no choice. I was reading reviews an since I had to go to my parents in Midnapore we decided to get take out from Golden Village. Despite reviews on the Chinese food, we ordered 3 subs and a few Chinese dishes. (note: prices are higher in store then online). Vietnamese Subs: The bread is not what you would find in authentic sub shops (French roll) and lacked MEAT!! this sub was mostly bread. Save your money and drive to Caf Delight in Inglewood or Saigon Deli in Forest Lawn, not only are they authentic but have full flavor, full of meat and are cheaper.Ginger beef: Well despite being more expensive, it is half the size then other restaurants, there really was no beef but over fried batter, and they give you the sauce on the size (only a quarter full). It looks like the passion is gone and they are money hungry. If you want better Chinese, better priced, and get pick up deals go to August Moon on Elbow Drive or Bamboo Gardens off 16th.If this is what people in the SE are subjected to for good ethnic cuisine I feel bad for you.
Just eaten their Vietnamese subs Korean Bulgogi. It was large for $7.90 tax included, with generous amount of meat and veggies. I can even share half with other adult. The only complaint is the Bulgogi meat was so thick and has tendon that when you bite the sub all meat will hang on your mouth. This Bulgogi was quite salty. Would have been perfect if meat was cut in small slices this is 10/10. Apparently they are connected to Subs & Bubbles food truck. Their Bulgogi subs was perfect, however sub was only half the size of Golden Village. I would give Golden Village Sub 8/10
Down Hill?. I hate to say this, but I think The Chinese food part of the business is going down hill… Ever since they started with the Vietnamese sub thing and food truck, It seems that the Chinese food isn’t as good as it used to be.. I have to say i was not impressed the last two times we ordered. It used to be fantastic. I’ll give it one more try before giving up what used to be my favorite take out place.
Every dish was bad!!. Tasted like it was recooked a few times over, all super dark and nasty, spring rolls were greasy on the outside and slimy on the inside!!! And they had a few secret little charges they threw in supposed to be free delivery within 5km I’m not even 1km away!! Horrible food horrible experience! Will NOT order from here again!!!
