The food was great here. Everyone enjoyed their steaks and prime rib immensely. The decor was upscale, the staff were very well dressed, Professional, polite, prompt and efficient. Our server Danny was a great waiter who was attentive and had a warm demeanour. My steak ( the 10 Oz Rib Eye) was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. It came with a baked potato, veggies and Caesar salad for $41. The quality of the food was impressive. Also, I felt like we were treated like VIP’s. I had requested a quiet space for our party of five, as my father is hard of hearing and had suffered a stroke. His brother and sister flew in from BC, and my Uncle chose The Cattle Baron for dinner as we wanted some top notch beef, and it was close by and had great reviews. I had called and asked for a reservation the previous day. They don’t take reservations for parties of less than six, but suggested that we ask to sit in the back room when we arrived the following day. I asked, and as promised, they let us sit in the back room which was empty except for us. Nice, quiet and private. Awesome service, food and decor made for a fantastic experience. I would recommend this steak house to anyone wanting great Alberta beef. It’s the best in the world!
I went to this restaurant because all the reviews and let me tell you my visit was remarkable. The food was just AMAZING, the Service was great and the dessert was delightful. I’m very satisfied. I’m my humble opinion this place it’s better than others in the area like The Keg. If you want to eat great food you must visit this place. well done guys.
When you live in a city that specializes in beef, you have to really A: love meat, B: know when it’s good. Cattle Baron is where A&B meet. But however, as with most good places, you get what you pay for. It is pricey. But with a name like Cattle Baron, they are inviting everyone to tell them their specialty is wrong… which it isn’t.
The Cattle Baron is a great steakhouse serving up quality food. Steaks have always been cooked to perfection and their ribs are some of the best I have had. The service is always on point and the free bread is always a huge plus in my books. It’s a higher end steak house so be prepared for those higher end prices.
My husband and I had a late lunch at The Cattle Baron. We had a gift card, and it was the first time either of us has been. Because it was 2 in the afternoon on a Friday, there was only a few patrons lingering around, so the place was quiet and calm. The restaurant decor reminded me of a more upscale Keg. From the start the host and sever were very friendly and professional. We started with Calamari and a Cesar salad for appetizers. I would give the calamari a fair rating, it was definitely nothing outstanding. I’ve had much better, and much worse. For the frozen ring type variety (I prefer tentacles) it wasn’t bad. There was a few soggy pieces near the bottom. Price of $13 was not worth the amount you get. The Tzatziki sauce was very good, lots of flavour. The Cesar salad at $7 (appy size) was a good portion. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, but the dressing was either lacking in flavour or there wasn’t enough of it. If you are a person that prefers your Cesar salad only lightly dressed then you will like this a lot. My husband had the 8oz lunch time prime rib at $25. It came with veggies (broccoli and carrots) and he chose garlic mashed potatoes. We both found the prime rib very lovely (I had a few bites). Tender and juicy with a nice gravy. The horseradish they offer is very good but VERY strong. You only need a small dab. I didn’t care for the taste of his potatoes but he liked them. The veggies were nice and el dente. Lightly flavoured with butter. I had the steak burger at $15. I found this very good value. The burger comes on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles and it was excellent. I choose fried mushrooms as an extra ($1.50). The bun was just gorgeous. Soft and tasty. I think I want all my burgers on brioche in the future! It’s a good chunk of steak and cooked perfectly. The mushrooms were great, and if you like those on your burger I suggest getting them added. They also give you a choice of bacon, and cheddar for extra. Fries were nothing spectacular but decent. I got them with a side of mayo, which they of course charged for at $1.50 extra. We decided to splurge and get a dessert, and chose the Mud Pie at $8. It was good, but not out of this world by any means. I somehow expected to be more impressed, but found it very similar to the kind you get at Joeys Only. Still, we enjoyed it. The sever was very gracious the whole time, checked on us often, and made polite and short conversation. Our tip reflected our appreciation. Not a cheap lunch; after tip it was almost $100, but a very enjoyable one.
Cattle barron has a south side location next to a number of eateries. We decided to try their lunch menu. The lobster mac n cheese at $16 was pretty cheesy but lack lobster bites. We’ve had this a couple times before and loved the lobster bits. Unfortunately..if you have to order this type of dish…We’d recommend just getting the mac n cheese $10… 2 bites of lobster doesn’t justify 6 bucks. The calmari was just meh… not bad but not really good either. Definitely not made in house. The strip sirloin and salmon were cooked well. The twice baked potatoe is skipping ingredients. Now it’s just mashed potato on top of a third potatoe wedge and baked. My potatoe had grey tinge to it. No creaminess.. no bacon no chives in the twice bake. .. you c an get toppings but who knows how long it’s been sitting out. Service was stiff..cold..indifferent. no smiling nor interaction. We asked for bread for kids… server said it was only for dinner but she could bring some and charge $2. The Keg gives bread at lunch and the items we ordered were dinner type entres. At that point we stopped ordering drinks. Cancelled our thoughts about dessert. We were done like dinner. Ohh they do give free candles if you buy dessert and it’s your birthday.
We have come here many times. Whether it is for a special occasion or just because you want a nice meal, we have never been disappointed. The filet mignon is like butter, just melts in your mouth and is always cooked to perfection. The beef carpaccio is delicious and the escargot is buttery and smooth. We love coming here and always look forward to it.
