Our absolute favourite place for brunch! The waffles are amazing. The coffee shop attached makes unreal chia lattes and cappuccinos. Very busy on the weekends but well worth the wait.
I always come here for the savoury smoked salmon waffle. I have tried to deviate from it, but each time, their hollandaise sauce keeps me coming back. However, the service is lacking charisma and the kitchen is extremely slow to deliver. . The ambience is … alright.
I came here for brunch around noon on a Saturday and parking was a pain in the butt. I ended up having to park by the church around the corner which was a few blocks from the place. Which was not so bad since it was one of the few places around there that had 2 hour parking. Trust me, you will need that 2 hours as 1 hour parking will not cut it for dining here. At first glance, the prices are on the higher side with breakfast items starting around $16. Instead of breakfast, I opted for their lunch menu and went for a truffle mushroom burger ($20). I was slightly hesitant because of the higher price tag, but my friend kept reassuring me that it is well worth it. The burger was actually a generous portion considering you are paying $20. The beef patty was thick and juicy which was pleasant. I had to take a moment to just take in the melted provolone cheese that perfectly encased the burger. The roasted potatoes were perfectly crispy and not overly soft or tender. The slaw was average and the server mentioned it being made with fish oil so you get a slight fishy after taste as you can imagine. The service was fantastic and the sever was cheerful, talkative and attentive. I left this place feeling full to the brim, happy and satisfied. The only thing to note for vegetarians: the server mentioned that the roasted potatoes are usually prepared using bacon fat, and the slaw with fish oil so do mention it to the waiter to confirm and they will be happy to notify the chef to prepare things differently.Only down side would be the parking, slower food preparation time (be prepared to wait) and prices are on the higher side.
Deeelicious! I had the savoury Belgian waffle. It came with a fresh green salad, and the waffle was topped with two perfectly poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and two links of sausage. The hollandaise was slightly too vinegar-y for my liking, but it was still enjoyable. The waffle was crisp and fluffy. Prices are a bit high, but the portions are so generous, so, totally worth it. Cute interior, friendly staff. I’ll be back!
I went here once for brunch, I’ve always wanted to try it since the day I was sitting in Dorinku, looked out the window and saw this place. My bf and I both got the traditional breakfast – yes, nothing exciting because I was trying to stay away from dairy.. and their waffles have dairy HOWEVER, although nothing exciting it was definitely delicious.I had the traditional breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon; my bf had it with over easy eggs and maple cranberry sausage. At first I wasn’t sure if I’d like maple cranberry sausage as I’m usually not a fan of cranberry sauces or anything of the sort but it was really good. The bacon was done really well and it was so crispy. The potatoes that came with the dishes were seasoned really well. A little too oily but it tasted great.Service was good too, I informed my server that I was lactose intolerant and she helped me make a decision on what to order. However, when our dishes arrived, my sourdough bread came buttered. So I just gave it all to my bf to eat. It’s a cozy little place – connected to Da Capo and is inside a building (I forgot the name). The feel of the interior was earthy. Very comfortable and also had lots of sunlight seeping through the windows.
Under the High Wheel was a bit hard to locate, with me nearly walking in the door attached to the exterior of the building. Turns out the entrance is inside the building itself….so it was an interesting start to my trip to Under the High Wheel. At 2pm on a Sunday I got one of the last tables, and met up with 2 other friends for a late lunch. I also noted how small and kinda hipster-y the restaurant was. We ordered our food, and I got their Bangers & Mash, while my friends got the Chocolate and Hazelnut Crepe and their chicken with waffles. I only sampled a bit of their dishes, but found the chicken to be tender and moist, and the crepe was more like a dessert than a main dish. Nonetheless, both were very good.My Bangers & Mash were the highlight of the trip. Eggs were eggs, hard to mess up. The mashed potatoes at first looked like a huge piece of chicken, however they went really well with the sauce given. Sausages weren’t overly oily, and the onions it came with matched the rest of the dishes perfectly to create a sense of satisfaction after I was done the meal. Service was fairly average – maybe a bit above average but nothing too crazy.Unfortunately as others have noted, their large problem is waiting forever for food. It took us about 40 mins to get our food after every table around ours who came in after got theirs. Prices were a bit on the higher side, but in the end I left feeling full and satisfied. All in all, I will come back but only when I am tolerant of waiting a while to get my food. Recommended.
Food was great but we were waiting for a couple of waffles and some traditional breakfasts for almost an hour. The food is great but everything else is really slow and inefficient.
