How has this place not been reviewed yet!!! I am glad I have the pleasure to be the first 🙂 We did our usual weekend hike and, as usual, were famished before we get to Calgary. This was the perfect place to stop on our way to grab a bite to eat. The beautiful architecture lured us in and the museum next to the restaurant requires a whole other review to rave about it. My partner got a beautiful hand made bead bracelet at the gift shop here for a very reasonable price (even though we wanted the beautiful antler knife on display). Now, onto the dining experience! The huge picture windows offer a beautiful view and the rest of the wooden interior really accentuates the native motifs used throughout. Unique local art is everywhere and really made it a great place to hang out for a bit. There were 4 of us and we each took turns watching the table and our stuff while the others absorbed the culture that was embedded into the building. The service was excellent! Though there were not many guests as we were there around 3 pm. The waitress was very kind and helped offer suggestions when we asked. She was very patient even though she had to come by 3 times because we spent so much time wandering around the restaurant 😛 I had the Bannock bison burger with boar bacon (see photo) and fries on the side. The bannock was perhaps a bit dry, but most bannock I have tried is (I grew up in a town surrounded on all sides by reserves). The chef could perhaps incorporate a bit more fat into the bread to make it a bit more moist. We also got the Saskatoon berry soup for dessert which is the chief’s own family recipe! This was accompanied with fry bread for dipping. It was a very unique dish and was very memorable. I will definitely get it again when I return.Lastly, the menu was relatively small but offered so many unique choices that I had a hard time picking the burger. I think next time I will try the braised elk. Unfortunately, the restaurant website suggests it will be closing its doors to remodel (Starting Aug 2018). Hopefully they do not change too much of the beautiful interior!
