Tried this place from a recommendations from a friend. Friendly staff, clean but parking was tough during busy times…just a single strip of angle parking and have to battle with oversized f-150 and work vehicles. Food was tasty, always have to compare the traditional Vietnamese bun bo hue … would have hoped for a bit more kick without needing to add my own hot sauce and seasonings from the table. Good size portion and good value. Next time I will ask for more hot sauce from the kitchen.
Used to go here all the time, at least twice a week. Food is good, and service is okay. Aside from that, went there today to get a 33 small (plain pho noodle with soup, no meat), with a side of grilled pork. Have gotten this order twice previously and they would charge me $7 for the pho and $4 for the meat. However, when I went in today, the older lady charger me $7 for the pho and $7 for the meat… that is almost double the price. It was sketchy to begin with as she did the calculation of the bill total on her manual calculator and told me my total rather than the till machine… Then I asked her why it was so expensive, and calculated it myself looking at the menu for prices. She told me that adding extra meat is $4, whereas just a side order of meat is $7. BUT the portion size is exactly the same, and I’ve done this order before and it was only $4. Prices are inconsistent depending on who is at the till, and not fair for the customers. Very sketchy. Do not recommend unless you’re looking to pay more than what the menu says.
One of my favourite pho restaurant in the city! When I’m feeling sick or under the weather I always make sure to order a bowl of pho to take home!
By far my our favourite local Pho location. This little gem stays consistant on flavour and authentic Bun Bo Hue starts here. Smoothies are real fresh to without a generous amount.
It was a quiet pleasant hot Sunday evening. The place was pleasant and accompanied by smiling and very courteous staff. We were served with some nice tea as soon as we sat our butt’s down.We decided on the Satay soups. Nice and and spicy the way we like it and with a fair amount of beef. Lots of bean sprouts and pieces of lime on the side. The Thai red pepper is always a nice touch. Be warned they don’t take credit cards.Good job ladies!
This is good reasonably priced Vietnamese food. My favorite Viet restaurant on the north side by far. Service is never slow and the servers are pretty down to earth and friendly. That is all there is to say about this place. The com ga chien gion is the best in the city. Mix the nuoc mam with a little satay and pour it all over the rice, perfection
Hands down, my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the north side of YEG, likely even in the entire city, to be honest. I’ve been coming here regularly for years, and I love pretty much everything they offer food-wise. Let’s face it, Viet food is great if you’re looking for something quick and cheap, especially for lunch. It’s mostly my friends’ favorite type of hangover food in the winter too. Admittedly, the place looks like a dive from the exterior, especially being located on 97st. If you hadn’t heard of it through word of mouth, you would probably never even notice it. It’s honestly one of those hidden gems though, and it is often packed at lunch or dinner time. I always see quite a few familiar faces, and most of the asians in the city-especially in the north end, have either been here before or else they frequent it regularly like myself. I admit that I tend to consider this a pretty good sign as asians can understandably be very judgemental towards asian food. There are 1 or 2 other pho restaurants in the same area, but I always gravitate towards Pho Song Huong. The food is truly what highlights this restaurant in my eyes. It’s very simple and no-nonsense, comes out extremely fast, and is always delicious and affordable. The pho is of course the most important aspect, and I love the flavour of the broth here. Aside from the soup though, the rice dishes are all fantastic-and I enjoy the fact that they bring you a small bowl of broth with them. Drinks like the Vietnamese iced coffee or milkshakes are also great, though pretty standard. The appetizers are yummy, though the minimum amount of spring rolls you can order is 7-which does seem a tad odd. Another important aspect of this favored spot, I can’t forget to mention, is the steamed tapioca dumplings. These are a phenomenal favorite appetizer of mine, and I have only ever found these offered at one other Vietnamese restaurant in the city. The service itself is to be expected, not particularly rave-worthy, but serviceable. I don’t expect the service to be phenomenal at any asian restaurant however, so that’s not really a concern for me. The prices also have risen a bit in recent years, though I believe all the food is still a fair price for what you get. My only real complaint is the large bowl of pho doesn’t seem worth it to order compared to the regular. I always think it’s practically the same amount, except for more broth in a larger bowl, which seems like a rip-off.
