So for sushi I would say this is one of the better places in the immediate west end. Especially around the mall and the prices are incredible! Also they have other features such as their main experience where they bring out a scalding hot slab of volcanic rock that you grill your options of meat on. Its actually so good! The service is very nice and friendly. Atmosphere is cute, cozy and modern.
Very unhappy, drove over a half hour to eat at this restaurant when the web said it was open until 11:00pm on a Saturday evening. Arrived at 10:15 and was denied service and told that they were closing. The sign on the door said open until 11:00pm and staff was unfriendly. Went down the street to another sushi place was treated with kindness and was finished my meal by 10:45. Will never return to Lava Rock and encourage others not to either
Cool experience with the lava rocks, but they didnt show us how to use it. Plus the rock lost heat really fast. The restaurant can get Smokey. They must have been short staffed, very slow service, missed orders. Almost 2 hrs in and still havent got the food from 1st order.
Had a business lunch here. It was great for this purpose, food and service were good, it was quiet (you could have a conversation) and the location is convenient lots of free parking.
It was disgusting. A unique combination of bad food, bad service, no wine list. False advertising on the website. Oh! And the hot rocks weren’t even hot. What the actual hell.
Dropped in with a Groupon on a Thursday and were very pleased with our set meal. Filet mignon on a hot lava rock—and any complaints about the cooking are your own fault because you do it yourself! It comes with soup, a small salad, sushi & tempura. We ordered extra sashimi (because I like it) but didn’t need it…the filet was lovely, the sashimi well cut and the tempura hot. Only thing I didn’t like was they use fake crab & scallops—either serve real or don’t offer it… we will be back!
I stumbled upon this place after seeing that Sushi Garden wasn’t open at noon during the week, and I was pretty excited to see a restaurant with something different going for it.I tried the 8 oz strip loin on the rock grill and an order of spicy salmon rolls.I was really surprised that a steak was only $11.75 so of course I had to try it, and for the price I would definitely say it’s worth the cost. The steak comes in a few different options for sauce, I went with garlic and sesame and was not disappointed! You cook the steak on a rock so you can decide how much it is cooked, the server gives a bit of a rundown and some tips for how to cook it properly. The only thing I didn’t like about the food was that the spicy salmon rolls were poor quality. The fish wasn’t very fresh but it was a lot cheaper than most places ($6) so I suppose I can’t complain. I’ll definitely return for the steak, but I won’t be coming back for the sushi.
