I am so in love with this Bakery! The owner is so warm and kind, you can tell she puts so much love into the food she makes and it makes me feel great buying locally from her. I don’t know where to begin with the food, because I’ve enjoyed everything from Rio Vida. I’d say my absolutely favourites are the cheese balls, perogies, falafel platter, pepperoni calzone, and cupcakes. The prices can appear a bit high but looking at the quality of the food, the freshness, and taste I can absolutely say it’s worth it. Highly recommend this bakery as its my new fav!
Absolutely LOVE the owner!. She (I think her name is Raja) is so talented!!! Her perogies are some of the best I’ve ever tasted and I’m Ukrainian!Since being aware of my gluten allergy I have often longed for baked goods and especially a quick delicious meal that didn’t take me hours to prepare. Finding this place almost felt like I won the lottery, that’s no joke lol. Her perigees and pizza crusts are FANTASTIC and you can hardly tell they’re gluten free. Thank you Raja for making my life as a celiac so much easier!10 Oct, 2014She’s Amazing!!. By far the absolute best pizza crust ever, gluten-free or not! Love coming to check out the bakery to see what kind of magical concoction Raja will come up with next! MMMM her pumpkin cookies are a must have as well!
You will never have Gluten Free that’s as amazing as RioVida!!!. Yesterday I stopped in to buy some GF baking and appies to take to a pot luck – I am not GF but the host and other guests are. I bought a selection of the sausage rolls, mini quiches etc – we loved it all! Not only was the pastry fantastic but the filling was excellent. I also bought a Tiramasu – lovely …and the Minestrone and chickpea soup was heavenly. If you are GF you must make this your go-to place and if you are not GF and need to pick up somethings for your GF friends – have no fear it will be welcomed by everyone. It is a bit tricky to find – behind the new Asian Village. but it’s well worth the visit..again and again…
Loved all the product. My brother who is celiac is staying with us . I went in and was greeted by the owner/baker and she was so friendly and helpful . I bought pizza crust which we had tonight , it was AMAZING ! I have tried other gluten free products and not liked them but this tasted terrific ! She was making rolls when I was there and I bought 2 for my brother still warm from the oven. The baker torn one apart right there and let me taste it , delicious , like a sour dough . My brother was really pleased with them too . I bought him sausage rolls as well which he said were really delicious . The raisin buns were a hit he loved them . It is not cheap but very high quality product . I think that pizza crust was the possibly the best I’ve had .
It’s…Good.. Blew close to $60 there, giving a number of things a try. Sweet buns, Burritos, Pasadena, Carrot Cake. Some of it’s good. Some of it…not so much. The Carrot Cake is a good example. Sweet as a mouthful of sugar, and as dense as a Cinder Block. The Sweet Buns had good taste, but were pretty dry. They’ve a Yellow Pepper Salsa that sold me though. Could be the best Salsa I’ve ever tasted. Will go back for that alone.
I’m Going to be the Stick in the Mud….. Well I have been wanting to come here for a long time, seeings all the reviews were so positive. For some reason I kept showing up on a Monday, when they are closed. Walking into the bakery, the first thing I noticed was a board on the wall to the right that lists all the products and prices. There were also fresh products sitting out (behind the counter,) which I assume were waiting to be packaged for freezing, and then I was directed over to a small stand up freezer where my shopping experience was to take place. I was explained what all was in the freezer and assured if I needed any help, just to ask. Not really sure what to try, and not wanting to pay an exorbitant amount of money, I chose a package that contained 4 brownies, and a bag that contained 4 buns. $14 later I was on my way…and just a little knocked over by the price of that. But for good eats, I’m willing to pay the price. Now I’m a big believer in, if I’m going to do my body a service by eating gluten free, then the ingredients or components inside that food should also reflect something healthy that I want to put in my body as well. Unfortunately I didn’t read the ingredient lists and therefore my fault for purchasing in the first place. White sugar,….blah blah blah…. Sorry, for the rant, I don’t want to sound negative and I truly wanted to give a positive review. My first bite into the chocolate brownie initially tasted to me like the rice dream milk I used to drink. After I swallowed, I got this bitter taste like I just ate baking soda. I tried another bite because I must be mistaken….no,…not good at all. This morning I tried it again, as I’m trying to justify still my $14 purchase. But sadly, I cannot continue to eat these. Now the texture is great. The taste is not. And again…the ingredients. I tried half a bun yesterday and the texture is good…not dry. Taste is ok also. So here’s the story, and as an example….. I buy these gluten free muffins at another store I go to. They’re the large kind and come 4 in a pack for about $5.50. The kind I get (there’s about 4 different varieties) is Belgian Chocolate with Banana. The ingredients are: sweet potato, whey protein, avocado, apple, banana, blackberry, blueberry, cranberry, dates, orange, pomegranate, unsweetened chocolate, honey, chia seeds, coconut, cocoa, natural flavour, baking powder, baking soda. The taste is so good and the texture is too. But again, what I especially like is that these things are actually good for me. So I can’t really justify getting a gluten free product, just for the fact it’s gluten free,…and then still putting other not so good ingredients in my body. Well, that’s my story for today. 🙂 Sorry if it turned into a blog.
Don Briggs President Edmonton Celiac Chapter. Great food. I suggest you go with an empty stomach as Nadja will have you tasting several different items.
