I ordered pick up yesterday and did not like what I got. The noodle used to be my favorite but this time I was seriously disappointed. It is called noodles with shredded pork and vegetables. There were only five thin strips of pork and a few green soy beans. I liked the noodles because of the tasty pork strips, chewy green soy beans and mustard. Now all that is barely seen with just lots of noodles and mustard. I guess the new owner wants to save on food cost by cutting down on ingredients. Not going back there any more!
We ordered so much -and we are NOT Chinese food knowledgeable. We just ordered what looked interesting or what the internet told us was good …everything was really delicious. And the guy serving us was so kind and patient with us. Will go back again !
Standard Chinese food with the exception of being one if not the only one that offers Xiao Long Bao. I came in with high expectations, not only because of the countless of suggestions when one asks for XLB but I was seriously reminiscing on the ones I had back in Seattle. I was misled. This place was awful. Im cutting this short. XLB -Soup Dumplings filled with minced pork ($7.95) A basket of 6 arrived to our table steaming hot, and they honestly looked gorgeous. But damn, the soup was all oil. The oil-broth was clear with white streams of white fat that followed as we pierced through each dumpling. Did not enjoy. Shanghai Noodles ($11.95) My favorite dish anywhere, I mean can you real mess up noodles with pork and cabbage? Yes, apparently you can. The noodles of this dish is usually recognized by the shape and length of the noodles. The noodles here? Broken up and mangled. Jar Jiang Lo Mien ($10.95) The black bean and meat sauce served on top was the most enjoyable thing during our dining experience. Great flavor and a nice kick of heat. The dish overall, watery. There was an abundant amot f soupy liquid rendered down on the bottom of the plate making the noodles extra soggy. Would I be back? No, Definitely not. Do I recommend? No. There are SO MANY OTHER PLACES to go and get cheap asian food that will be 100x better. Dont waste your time or your money here.
Delicious. Some of the best Chinese food I have had in the Province. For two people we ordered the hot and sour soup, two orders of the soup dumplings, beef pan fried dumplings, spring rolls and the shanghai noodles, they also serve you tea as soon as you sit down. This was obviously too much to eat for two people and we ended up taking home the beef dumplings and the noodles. The soup dumplings are out of this world, best I have ever had. The spring roll was flavourful and you could actually taste the ingredients. The beef dumplings were very tasty, but be careful, they are very juicy and explode when you eat them. The best part of this restaurant was that when we left we did not have that gross feeling you typically get after eating too much Chinese food. I cannot wait to go again!
First time here and did not realize they only took cash, but they accepted my debit card as we were first timers. It was a Sunday evening and they were very busy. We didn’t know what to order from the menu as the selections were many. We took a stab at three selections and two were a little repetative and we ended up with an overload of noodles. Our fault. Will come again for sure.
We had green beans with a sauce and they were delicious, so was the coconut shrimp! Yummers. We will return to try more. It’s not fancy but when the food is great, who cares!
I haven’t tried many places in Edmonton for XLB’s but I would say that Shanghai 456 has the best XLB I’ve tried so far. I also love the options that they have and how there are food items that I could not find at other Chinese restaurants. My favourites to order are definitely the deep fried donut with pork floss in sticky rice roll and the stir fry rice cakes! Food comes out really fast and it’s rare that I’d have to wait a long time! Overall, this place is one of my top choices for Chinese food in Edmonton.
