We had some time to eat before a movie so popped into this place that my husband had been to with a friend several months ago. Well what a pleasant surprize. Owners were on site to welcome and share their cooking choices with us. The food is the very very good and made from scratch, including the sauces on burgers, marinara sauce and pizza. Very good value for the modest menu too. I have been in some high end restaurants that are not as good as this neighborhood gastro pub. Cant wait to go back. They also serve some locally brewed beers which is a plus. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.
Had intended on going to another restaurant close by but when we went it was way to loud. Had noticed this restaurant name on the side of the building when we parked. We walked in and was greeted right away and shown a table. Nice space where you can actually have a conversation. Had a the drink special, just ok. Would have preferred a beer but the taps were down. Ordered the pork strips and ribs. Brought us warm olives while we waited for our meal. I have never had warm olives were very good. Both dishes we had were very good and had tons of flavor. Will have to go back to try the burger or pizza. Server was great, as was the owner who checked in to make sure everyone was happy.
Chic Hog O’s restaurant is my favourite restaurant in Edmonton. The owners are great people, the staff are attentive, and the food is amazing. Their new menu and the additional choices it offers makes it even better than before (and I would have rated it a 5 before). They have a nice patio with music and since it is just off Jasper Avenue, it isn’t noisy so you can easily and have good conversation as you are enjoying their delicious food. I have some favourites on the menu and have never had anything that I didn’t like. I look forward to trying more items off the new menu in the coming months. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone I know and feel confident they would enjoy good food that has beencooked and served by great people. I also think the prices are reasonable and usually have leftovers for the next day.
This is an awesome little place. Very nice staff. Thefood I have triedhas been outstanding. Had the porchetta sandwich and the blue cheese beef one. Both very good and I am super picky. And I really like to support local businesses instead of box or chain restaurants.
Great service! We loved the atmosphere and the electro swing music. Really cool place. Nice change from all the sports bars in the neighborhood. Recommend the artichoke dip, yummy!
Overall, I think this place has a lot of potential. It is slightly inconvenient in location (not terrible, but off the main street so not obvious). The interior looks pretty slick, and I like having the window right into the kitchen. The music is quirky in a good way to me, and the staff seemed very friendly. I especially like the olives given as a ‘starter’ when our drinks were brought in, which was pleasantly different. My only real critique is I found the menu at odds with what I felt (personal opinion) was the intended atmosphere to be created. The interior to me lends itself more to bar food or tapas, but the food is mostly sandwiches. Good sandwiches, to be sure, but I left feeling like the place was trapped between two different niches. To me, a sandwich is an entirely personal experience to eat and not designed for sharing, but all the tables seemed designed for social gatherings, which lends itself to more mezze-style dining. If they’d done more stuff like a charcuterie platter, nachos, or even small plate apps (going to the tapas thought above) I would definitely of ‘gotten’ it more. As it is, I would definitely recommend this place as a lunch destination, but for more typically dinner food, it didn’t do it for me.
Great service and experience from beginning to end! A nice open space, with plenty of seating (including at the bar) and open views to the kitchen. When we went on a Thursday there were only a few people in the venue but was a great atmosphere with swing-pop music playing and classic movies on the few tvs. The owner greeted and seated us, and even came to check on us after we got our drinks. We each ordered a Situation beer (local!), and were informed that there was a Game Day special of a this beer + the Chic-Uzi appetizer. Done. The dip was one of the better appetizers Ive had in general, full of what seems like slow cooked chicken, and cheese. We split the Chic-Hog-Os Burger (thanks for the tip from our server, the portions are HUGE. The burger patty was the size of my face. Two entrees would have been so much food), and we were both completely satisfied. The mixed patty of pork and chicken was super juicy, along with their unique BBQ sauce was perfect. The menu was pretty limited I think about 3 appetizers and 5 entrees (plus desserts), but the owner had mentioned a new menu coming out at the start of next month (Feb) and we will definitely be back! Seems like the bar (Chicago Prohibition Style) has interesting cocktails that would be fun to try too. I hope they keep their personality!
