I’ve tried going to this place several times, but they have always been closed. Don’t even try and go here for a late lunch because they only make enough daily till they run out and they always do. Today I was able to be there when they first opened and it was well worth it. Hands down the best Ramen I’ve tried in Edmonton along with great service and regular price. I didn’t try anything else on the menu, but will definitely go back.
Tokiwa serves the best ramen in Edmonton 100%. Very high quality and authentic. If you tried them during their soft/grand opening and wasn’t a fan, I encourage you to give it another go.
Situated in Edmonton’s brewery district, Tokiwa Ramen prides itself on it’s broth and quality as they only make a certain amount of bowls everyday and close when they are sold out. Getting there slightly past 12pm on a Sunday afternoon, my friend and I managed to snag the last table in the restaurant. The layout of the restaurant is efficient and reminded me of other ramen places that I had been to that were not in Edmonton.I ended up getting the Tokyo Tonkatsu ramen, which came out fairly quickly. The ramen broth was pretty salty and not what I expected. Definitely not the best. Ramen quality was good, however. Much more genuine than the stuff that a lot of Edmonton ramen places give with their ramen. The charshu was tender and quite satisfying. Overall, the price was pretty affordable but at the same time I felt like it was missing something for it to be a great ramen place that stands out from the other ones in Edmonton. Service was nothing fancy but got the job done. When we left about 45 mins later the line was going to the door, so be aware that this place does fill up fast! All in all, don’t come here with authentic ramen expectations and this will be a decent place to get a decent ramen bowl. Recommended.
This place is one of the best ramen places I have ever been to. I have gone every single day since it opened, because I have a fiery passion for soup. I sleep on the street out front so that I can be the first customer in the morning. I also bring a ziplock bag and always get extra pocket ramen for those late nights when i’m alone in the parking lot on a cold day. My wife left me because I only eat here now, which is fine because I hated her cooking anyway. They take pride in their ramen and I have never had a bad experience here. Try the goma goma!
Goma GomaForgot I went to this place, cause the ramen was that bad to me. Ate the goma goma which had sesame, chopped pork with miso and chilli. First off, the broth sucked. It was bland and lacked flavor. I had to add so much shichimi to it. The pork was mediocre, probably the only thing properly seasoned. All the vegetables were not great and the egg yolk as close to hard and not liquidy. Good thing the service here was great. Everytime my glass of water was empty, it was filled in seconds.Definitely helped that there was maybe 2 staff per table. Always asked if i needed anything every minute like i was shopping at Henry Singer.Located in Brewery District, this place was super promising with the fact that they only sold a certain amount of bowls a day. Im surprised they even sell out to be honest. I was here on a saturday at like 6 so it wasn’t sold out. Wish I posted this earlier and saved @_andie.lo some skrilla. Got there at 11:35 today, nobody lined up inside or out however it was full and luckily there was a pair in the process of leaving….we ordered 2 different bowls of ramen, for variety, they were both incredibly delish…the broths here are silky good and the noodles were fresh and very tasty! Despite being crowded, the service was excellent. Our impression was that this place wasnt a joint where you could sit, relax and sip your water…. more of a get in, eat and get out kinda place. SO FAR, this is the BEST ramen i have had in this city, Yeah, i would fo that again!
Last year we went to Japan. And we learned a lot about Ramen. I can say that Tokiwa is as authentic as it can be. No MSGs or artificial flavours. The broth simmers for hours. I had the black garlic Ramen, pork based. The broth was rich, the meat was tender and the garlic flavour was intense. The only problem with this restaurant is the waiting for long time for a table since it is so busy. As well they go until they run out. That means they rarely make it until dinner. They really need to expand!!
