Founded by the same owners as Duchess, Cafe Linnea has boasted a large brunch presence in Edmonton offering all day brunch and special high tea events. I had heard the lines would be crazy busy, so I made a reservation for when the restaurant opened on a long weekend Friday morning. I got there at 10am and after being seated I noted two main things. Firstly, the restaurant is very airy/open and takes advantage of tons of natural lighting. I really enjoyed the interior and how they don’t try to jam as many tables and customers in as possible. Second, I found that over half of the tables were reserved. Not a shock considering it was a public holiday, but it really shows how the reservations go for such a busy restaurant.I ended up getting their smoked salmon omelette and my friend got the chicken pot pie. Both the dishes came with a small side salad with a light dressing which was refreshing. I wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of my smoked salmon omelette. The portion size was good – unfortunately the egg seemed a bit runny at the bottom since the eggs are supposed to be scrambled. The salmon pieces were definitely more salty than the rest of the dish, but it mixed well with the cooked parts of the egg. I pretty much inhaled the meal since I was so hungry and unfortunately still felt a bit hungry after. My friend really enjoyed his chicken pot pie – he said that putting an egg on top of it was very interesting and a great choice overall.Service was very very average. I don’t think our waiter tried to make any conversation with us at all – a very no-nonsense server. Take order, fill drinks, give bill. He seemed to slowly warm up throughout the meal though and it seemed he was like that for all the tables. Maybe he wasn’t a morning person and was very tired that morning? All in all, I think I’d like to give this place another try sometime because of the hype it gets and how portions of my experience were great, but I think based on my first experience that I think there are better brunch places in Edmonton. Recommended.
I don’t know what’s wrong with people, but this is the best restaurant in Edmonton, IMHO. I’m not much of an all day breakfast person, what the place is famous for, maybe I’m not hung over all the time like some Edmontonians, but their lunches, their juices (divine!), their dinners, are fantastic and at good prices for the high quality. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere, but the food is top notch. I haven’t had a bad meal and the desserts are by their owners (Duchess Bakery) so you’re set for your appetizer, main, and dessert. The wine selections are also good. Very happy about this place. 🙂 Don’t close like Solstice! We need good French food!
Hands down the best brunch dish I’ve had in Edmonton, Linnea is a must try and I can’t wait to be back to try their dinner menu.Cafe Linnea is a bright new restaurant with an open concept and good sized dining area. They have plant life scattered along the bar and foyer area which is a nice welcoming.Brunch is served from 10-2 every day except Tuesday and Wednesday and the restaurant was about 2/3 full on a Friday afternoon. The coffee is delicious (sourced from bows and arrows in Victoria) and they offer both soy and almond milk, although they are not listed on their menu. The food is equally delicious. I ordered the farmers breakfast which includes fried eggs, potatoes, house smoked-thick cut bacon and fresh corn drowned in a rich butter sauce then topped with a tomato relish and fresh basil. It’s also served with a slice of their house made sour dough bread which is excellent for soaking up the sauce and runny egg yolk.Service was excellent, the prices are fair ($50 even for 2 after tax) and the atmosphere is perfect for a date or just catching up.
Farmers Breakfast and Soft Scrambled EggsCafe Linnea boasts a large open restaurant and has some great dishes to go with it. Had the Farmers Breakfast which had house-smoked meat, new potatoes, corn on the cob and two fried eggs topped with tomato and basil. This is a proper breakfast dish. The potatoes were huge and was a perfect starch that went with the cubes of smoked meat. There were chunks of delicious meat littered all over this dish and some were just pure fat. Fat is delicious. Eggs were cooked soft to perfection and the yolk pouring over all this dish tasted so good. The meat juices left at the bottom of the dish was so good I almost drank it up. Sof Scrambled Eggs had three soft scrambled eggs, served on a bed of baby peas and house guanciale with sourdough bread. The peas on this dish were so fresh and the eggs had such a good buttery flavor. Both dishes had nothing fried on it and really helped with not feeling like a piece of shit yet having a hearty breakfast.Cafe Linnea is in the weird area near 111 ave and 119st. Service was kinda slow but the restaurant was packed for noontime. Food was definitely worth waiting for. Will definitely come back to try out dinner and the other dishes. Linnea is up for enRoutes top 10 restaurants and if you ate here, youll see that its probably a top 5, top 5, top 5. Do yourself a favor and go here for brunch.Sal says: Just Eat It (4.5/5)@adubalicious says: Soft scrambled eggs were similar to the Gordon Ramsey method of cooking. Delicious but probably more butter and cream than egg. Peas were fresh and crispy. Atmosphere was bright and inviting.@cafelinnea#yeg #yegfood #food #foodie #foodporn #foodgasm #foodpics #foodstagram #instafood #delicious #hungry #yummy #brunch #dinner #lunch #aircanadatop10
After hearing so many great things about Cafe Linnea, I decided to try it out with a friend. Our server helped us pick out the our dishes and was attentive when it came to drink/water refills.
The brunch at Cafe Linnea is amazing. My boyfriend and I headed there on a Sunday and it was very busy. There was a 45 min to an hour wait for a table and it was only an hour after opening. My first impression of the restaurant was that it had a great atmosphere and the interior looked stunning. For brunch, we ordered a chai latte, a cinnamon bun, smoked pot pie and oeuf-en-cocotte with sausage (definitely recommend adding sausage). The dishes were all delicious and well made. Overall, it was a great experience.
God, Cafe Linnea has been on my list since they opened back in the summer last year and Ive been lusting over the beautiful food shots and how awesome the interior looked through instagram. FINALLY had time to make it down for a late lunch, and I left with almost all of my senses satisfied. The interior, honestly breathtaking. They utilized every space and finished with an incredibly detailed and unique design. Airy and fresh with plenty of windows welcoming natural sunlight. The space alone is a reason to come visit. Theyve perfected the ambiance, making you aware youre at somewhere fancy yet with a totally relaxed and calming natural sense to it all. Service was a breeze, though waiting for a table seemed to be a little awkward as they seemed to only have 2 servers during the time we went. Both seemed a little flustered having to cater to all the tables while also needing to seat guests. Aside from that, our server was very welcoming and was great with explaining and giving suggestions with the menu.Smoked Pot Pie ($22) 3/5 Smoked chicken and pork loin, mixed peas and carrots with cream sauce topped with a beautifully flakey pastry lid. Finished with a poached egg, cooked to my preference:runny. It tasted good, but nothing particularly special aside from the plating. I probably would have liked more cream in my dish with how much meat there was once I got to the bottom of the dish. The presentation was on point, mine did collapse but still was really pretty to look at it. Swedish Meatballs ($22) 2/5 One of their newer dishes, Ground pork and beef balls on top of creamy mashed potatoes with coffee gravy and pickled cucumbers . Again presentation looked really nice, the slight glaze on the gravy made it looked delectable. Taste wise, we weren’t a fan. The mashed potatoes were grainy and not creamy the pickled cucumber was REALLY sour. The only thing that stood out was the coffee gravy. Food did not blow me away, but the ambiance and decor totally did, Which is probably the only saving point that would make me want to give it another shot. Currently planning to stop by on a Sunday soon for high tea to give it another go!
