I do like this place and usually it is good. Tonight was a big disappointment. Sad really because it is service and carting or lack of same that can make or break a restaunt. They didn’t get one order right tonight and my expensive steak was burnt on one side. Service was terrible and grumpy. Not what we are used to. Next month when we come back it had better improve or we will change the setting to don’t like. It’s all about pride in ones work and tonight no one cared.
Tasty brunch buffet time warp. Came in for the buffet brunch on sunday.Food actually fantastic. everything was great. roast beef was tender, eggs benny was perfect with runny yokes, salads fresh, pasties very good. even the coffee was pretty decent.Funny thing was the place was a time warp. decor featured paintings of royalty, lots of dark wood and old carpet. most of the guest per well above retirement age, out young family felt strangely out of place. It’s an old hotel that is well past it prime and it shows.
Wedding Reception Food @ Western Dining that tastes GOOD? No way. Yes way!. Let us not kid ourselves but most western dining reception food is mediocre, if not inedible (I’m looking at you Holiday Inn Express, yuck yuck YUCK). If they care barely keep themselves together either with plated food or buffet, I’d be surprised already. I didn’t feel like they were cooking for a hundred or so people… no. The food was actually fresh and good. There’s flavor. I liked the h’orderves which consisted of chicken kabobs, deep fried shrimps, bacon scallops, and prosciutto-wrapped melons. The smoked salmon tasted better than the ones I got from Costco. These ones were less pink in nature (good thing?) and the pickled peas complemented it perfectly. By the way, I’ve been to 2 weddings here now and both times I was impressed with the food and service. Keep it up.
Julian’s Piano Bar. Great lounge atmosphere. I especially liked the wood paneling on the walls, piano in the corner, huge saltwater fish tank. The lunch specials are reasonably priced and continually updated. The overall food experience has always been good for me….. but where this place stands out is it’s drink menu. They have a great selection of liquor. I went to check out the Chateau Louis Liquor store after, and they must have the largest selection of single malt scotch in the city. They even had some private casks bought just for the hotel. I will be back
My friend and I went here for Winter Fork Fest 2012. The three course meal for $25 included:Chicken and Shitake in PhilloFresh Arctic Char SteakCoffee Hazelnut & Raspberry TorteThe whole experience from the food to the service was just okay. The chicken was fine; the arctic char was a little bland; and the ice cream with the torte was all melted. The food reminded me the food at some catered events where taste is sacrificed during mass production.The service was pretty casual and our server was generally attentive.Well, $25 wasn’t bad for a meal, but I’m sure I would have preferred spending it elsewhere. And now that I’ve tried the Royal Coach Dining Room, I’m sure I won’t need to go back.
I went there this weekend for brunch for my grandma’s birthday- the food was delicious (in particular the bacon, eggs benadict, crab legs that actually had a lot of meat, and the lavender honey cheesecake!!!!) However, the service, although friendly was SLOW!!! Nobody had their coffee at the same time, we had to wait so long for the bill that we thought we had to pay at the front!! So, in conclusion the food and surroundings were wonderful- I would go again for a buffet but I would not go for a plated meal because the service was too slow:)
They call this service??. My family and I had lunch on Saturday while attending a wedding at the Chateau Louis. One other table in the dining room, with approx. 12 people. We had to wait almost 20 minutes to have or order taken and the waiter took my husband and son’s beverage order and walked away before he took mine.Our son’s meal came and it was hot. My husband then received his bowl of soup and I waited and waited and then finally asked where my meal was……. the waiter forgot to order it!My fish and chips arrived about 10 minutes later (meanwhile son is finished his mean and hubby is finished his soup and waiting for his meal). My meal is cold, cold french fries and the limpest, greasiest fish ever. I sent it back stating it was cold and grease filled and would they please make a new plate…. the waiter had no idea how to handle this…………………….Hubby’s meal never arrives.My replacement meal arrives and the fish is now UNDER cooked and batter is doughy. French fries are fresh, hot and great…. I asked for ketchup…. I asked for ketchup again, then I get up and look for ketchup (none to be found)………… our waiter after the 5th time I asked, finally brings ketchup, now I have cold meal again……… (sigh).Again, my husband’s meal never comes……… we finally flag down waiter again…… where is husband’s meal? You ordered a meal he asks???????????? Okay, this fellow is not the brightest light bulb and it clearly showed.I complain to the manager who just looked at me. No response. I will only make you pay for son’s meal, soup and your beverages, well obviously as all else was returned or not received!!Will I return? Hell no……. not my first time here, but, definately my last in the dining room! What a total joke of wait staff.
