Such a great place! The staff are so friendly, trendy cool atmosphere and great food and drinks. My favorite place to to in after work and enjoy a glass of wine and a snack.
With an open kitchen and friendly staff this place is perfect to spend the afternoon. The food was great as I tried their weekly special the salmon chowder and vanilla hazelnut coldbrew. The Salmon chowder had a tart cherry tomato kick to it that stimulated your appetite. It had plenty of salmon in it and the soup base was padded with celery, onions and spices (the typical veggie soup base). I wouldn’t go out of my way for their coldbrew but overall it was ok.The staff were nice and friendly as they greeted you with a smile. The open kitchen added a feeling of a open home where people could relax and unwind for the day.Great place, great people. Will be back for sure.
Stopped for breakfast at this local coffee shop. Surprised to find the breakfast selection so limited. Only a few breakfast type sandwiches, cookies, soup and oatmeal. No fruit, muffins or smoothes. Service was less than average. Settled on Oatmeal which was instant oats with a container of nuts and cranberries on the side. Americano was disappointment number two and was very weak. Was looking for a not a chain coffee bar that was interesting. End up with a Disappointing breakfast at an uncomfortable table that kept snagging my clothes.
We’ve seen the sign for this new caf but until recently it wasn’t open on Saturdays so it wasn’t on our list. Today we tried it out. First the positives; the decor is original, clean and generally spacious. The prices are very good. Now the negatives, the breakfast sandwiches were dry, lukewarm, and just a little better than you can get at a certain Canada wide franchise often called Tim’s. It was very reasonably priced though. I was still hungry so I ordered a bowl of soup. I believe it’s called egg drop noodle soup. Here again the price was good and the flavour quite nice but it was not even close to hot. Did they have a power outage? The coffee tasted fine and came in a nice big mug, but again it was not hot enough. The service was cheerfully pleasant but when I explained that I got a veggie breakfast sandwich when I ordered ham, there wasn’t even an apology. I’m optimistic that the Woodrack Caf will become a popular destination caf. Most of the problems can be solved by turning up the temperature before serving the food. I’ll come back in a few months because once they get the bugs worked out, this will be a nice place for brunch.
I’ll be honest- I don’t approve of the espresso bean company that Woodrack is using. But I’ll qualify my honesty further: Melissa makes great cappuccinos (best out of my few favourite independents right now). I really like that they offer brewed coffee from micro-roasters like ACE and Anchored. Their baking is so much fun. And, they make regulars feel like gold. I don’t even know how they learnt my name since I only go there with my four year old and it’s not on my card! I would like to check out their events. I wish they were open weekends.I am so grateful they opened up shop near me. Finally a coffee place for me to call home.
I’d been waiting on this cafe to open for what feels like an eternity, I can’t begin to guess what took so long getting this place together but I was excited to try it out never the less. The interior is pretty nice, a rustic bohemian look to it, some nice comfy spaces to spend time in and some tables that are better for spreading textbooks and laptops out on. the kitchen area has its pots and pans hung up neatly in sight giving it a homey feel. but despite the comfortable and pleasing interior, woodrack slings pretty unremarkable coffee and overpriced (but tasty) foodstuffs. The espresso is very so-so, they carry dansei espresso, a large roaster from Italy. Its fine coffee, and has consistent quality, but its a coffee shop staple brand, this stuff is common, and I feel its kind of disappointing for an independent coffee shop. A lot of other small coffee shops in Edmonton carry locally roasted product that ensures freshness, and some variety, sometimes even blends made especially for that coffee shop. the coffee is pulled with acceptable competence, you won’t get a bad coffee drink here I don’t think, but nothing special either, might as well make your coffee at home unless its the shop itself with its inviting and funky charm that you’re there for.
