I’m not even going to waste my time writing a detailed review on this place. The service wasnt great, the sashimi was terrible (not fresh in the slightest) and the deep fried dishes were mediocre at best. Will not be back. Will be sticking to Kobe in the west end, worth the extra money.
Service = trash. Lost the order menu twice. Didn’t have chopsticks/plates for everyone till halfway through the food. Don’t need to really add anything else. This place is garbage.
Great place to sample different Japanese dishes and a fun outing. We enjoyed the private booths. Don’t forget to order the hot dishes at the bottom of the menu – shrimp and yam tempura were excellent.
We went to Zen Sushi in Old Strathcona for AYCE sushi today for lunch. We go here every couple of months. The food was just okay like normal. The service was horrible. We had long waits between stuff being brought to our table. A few things never did arrive. We were ignored when we tried to get a servers attention. We sat for the longest time when we were finished waiting for a bill. I told two people I’d like to pay and was still ignored. We had to go to the till to pay. Our server said ‘oh, are you ready to go now?’ and laughed. When I said to her that the poor service and attitude will cost her her tip, she just laughed again. So did the other person beside her. We won’t be returning here. There are a lot of other restaurants much better than this one, who treat you a lot better too. 1.5 is too high a rating, but it’s the lowest I can choose
Terrible food and terrible service. We received many things we didn’t order and the staff kept losing our order sheets. The table next to us was having the same thing happen to them and we were pretty much the only customers. Barf.
I’ll start by saying in definitely not a sushi snob. The restaurant itself wad clean and to me that’s the good points. I opted for the bento box as I couldn’t justify the almost 30$ for the all you can eat option the first time trying the place, I’m glad I made this choice. The food was mediocre at best. The teriyaki chicken is better at Edo Japan as are the sushi pieces. The tempura was greasy and cold The waitress was nice enough but pretty absent for the most part. My hunt for great sushi in edmonton continues!
Mediocrity at it’s finest. Zen’s South Side location is located just off Calgary Trail, and has some but not a lot of parking in it’s parking lot. Compared to the north side, the location is a lot better, and (I think?) the price is a few bucks cheaper. The food quality is similar – fairly bland. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by other AYCE places like Watari and It’ All since I know I used to like Zen a couple years ago. For $31.99 it’s definitely not as pricey as a couple other locations around Edmonton, however the food was quite bland and mediocre and i left feeling very unsatisfied. Service was prompt and friendly though. All in all, it’s so average that I wouldn’t recommend it. It left me unsatisfied after leaving the restaurant. Not recommended.
