Judging purely on food, I would not recommend this place. They used to have a great menu and chef when they were in the old location, but the few times I’ve eaten at the new Garry Theatre location, the food has been horrible. So much that I will often eat somewhere else before going to see live music here.It’s too bad, because I can’t be the only one who feels this way. Musically, it’s a great venue, and the drinks and service are good. Let’s hope the food improves.
Craptastic. If i wanted to see every bad band from the early 90’s calgary scene I know i’d be going to the ironwood. Steve Pineo christmas show?? I didn’t think it could get worse than a Neil Young tribute band. This club isn’t even 2004 current.
Love it! Went there with my boyfriend for dinner and it was absolutely delicious. I had the New York steak, I am very picky about my steak but this was great. My boyfriend had the chicken tuscanini which was also very good. Service was good, staff is very friendly. Definitely going back for more!
Flawed Administration. I’ve been to this venue several times, and I think it’s a great spot to see some of my favourite musicians. However, I have never had a positive experience in making a reservation. I usually end up calling multiple times in an attempt to speak to someone but am forced to leave a message. The most recent time, I phoned back to make sure they had actually listened to my message, and I was told that they didn’t have my reservation written down, and it was full. I never received an apology for their mistake, and am left with a sour taste in my mouth.
Its all good!. I’ve seen a the Mocking Shadows and Ridley Bent here and they both were amazing shows.I was lucky enough to have a smart friend call ahead and reserve seats at the bar, and that made what would have been a great show into a great night. The bartenders were amazing. Even though they were clearly running off their feet to serve a packed house, they took time to chat us up, tell us about the band and the amazing menu and make sure we were all around treated like royalty. It didn’t hurt that Glenn was easy on the eyes either ;-)I love going to a place where you can see regulars greeted by name, and have newcomers come back a second time and get recognized and feel like they’re old friends.I highly recommend everything about this place.
Great music but that’s all. Slow pretentious service, overpriced all around, food is bland but mostly it is a cold place with a strange seating / layout for viewing the band and socializing. Their old location was much better.
Great acoustics!. Come here from the music, definitely not the food! I’ve gone here a few times, and always enjoyed the shows they have. The acoustics are great, the bartenders are casual and friendly, and the bands are top quality. Keep in mind that cover charge is usually 25 bucks, and it is a secret until you get your bill (very bad policy). The servers are very nice but not the most attentive – maybe they have too many tables or maybe they just don’t care, but I’ve had two who repeatedly walked away before asking if I wanted another drink (mine was empty), or pausing so I could ask. The food is really bad… Grilled shrimp appetizer is passable but expensive considering it is 4 shrimp fried in garlic butter with a piece of toast, and the tuna salad (recommended by the bartender) is nasty! Don’t eat here, but do come for the acoustics!
