I read the negative reviews & ever the optimist I thought maybe we were hearing from really critical people. Please, save your money & aggravation, you dont need to try to prove the previous reviews wrong. I waited for 15 minutes & finally asked if there was a list I needed to order. There is a list but since I wasnt given one they would just write my order down. We werent asked what we would like to drink, 3 waters arrived which was nice but no tea which Ive had in every dim sum restaurant Ive ever eaten in. I ordered shu mai, a pork dumpling that was supposed to be flavoured with garlic, ginger & onion, sticky rice, BBQ Pork Bun (baked) Gai lan & deep fried shrimp dumpling. I requested chop sticks for myself before our food arrived. The gai lan arrived in a cold puddle of water, overdone& with no oyster sauce. I inquired & was told they were probably out of oyster sauce. The dumplings arrived & the steam baskets were set right on the table, no tablecloth or under tray & they leaked greasy, gelatinous steamer juice all over the table. The ground meat of both types of dumpling was remarkably under seasoned with no distinguishing characteristics between the two types. A side of oyster sauce was brought to me with no apology for missing it & no explanation of why they would offer gai lan & oyster sauce as printed on the menu without it if they were out. The meat was course & grisly. The bbq pork bun was outstanding & fortunately I had ordered it as we were pretty hungry. The sticky rice was very good also. My shrimp dumplings never arrived which is probably good but they were still on my bill. In the hr that we were in the restaurant the adjacent table was covered with dirty dishes which were not cleared. If I hadnt had two hungry & irritable children I would have stayed to discuss with a manager but based on the servers apathy, I think they dont care. It was as if she knew that the food & service were bad & had no hope to satisfy anyone. Just a really disappointing dim sum day.
The waitress was awesome and that’s kind of sad. This place is old tired and used up. Worn out furnishings beat up carpet kind of prepared you for the mundane mediocrity that was lunch. Parts were cold parts ,some were hard all was just yuck. I recommend going to any one of Red Deer’s other fantastic Chinese restaurants.
