Went here for dinner on a weeknight. The food was really good and reasonably priced. The naans were a good size. Good portions provided for the curry dishes in the dinner for four combo. Definitely will be back for sure. A hidden gem in royal oak.

A friend and i tried the beef vindalo and the afghan tikka. Utterly delicious. The tikka was moist and the vindalo was perfectly spiced, not too hot and not too mild just the way i like it. Although this place may seem very quiet, i believe it isnt getting the business it deserves. It was fairly priced, a meal for two costing approximately 30 dollars including two main dishes, rice and naan. Will definitely visit again and lets hope it remains a hidden gem.

This is the best East Indian food in Calgary! We have tried a number of dishes and love them all, it’s very high quality. The mgmt is very conscientious. Every time we have ordered food for take-out, they always double-check the order in front of us to ensure it’s complete. So happy to have great Indian food in NW Calgary.

My only wish is that this place is not so far from home. Made a special trip with my parents. My Dad (Pakistani) felt that this has now become his favourite place in Calgary. The mutton kebabs were the star of the meal. Everything was fresh and delicious. Atmosphere and the design of the restaurant is very classy but not pretentious. Service great too.

I’ve passed Spice 7 a number of times while I’ve been the neighbourhood and it took me a while to finally go out of my to support them. There’s a lot of family combo specials on the menu for reasonable prices.Ordering take-out, the wait time was a bit longer than the restaurant estimated, but walking in to pick up our meal it was clear that it would take awhile with the place packed with people.A great spot for Halal Indian and Middle Eastern food, it’s a good spot to hit for dinner if you live in the area. Personally, the tomato based sauces like the Butter Chicken and the Butter Fish were really quite good. The fish in particular was really soft and tender. The rest of the vegetable and meat curries were fine – pretty standard quality for a neighbourhood spot. Enough to make me want to visit again.I had the opportunity to try the kababs as well. A really good choice with good meat selections, although a bit dry for my tastes – I prefer the sauce and curry dishes.Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area, it’ll be a place I return to when I need some dinner ideas.

Bill Kaufmann, Calgary Sun, Dec. 27, 2015It wasnt long after wed entered the little suburban strip mall eatery that I was left asking the question wheres the beef? The supply at the four month-old Spice 7 was exhausted, depriving us of the places namesake kebab. Not missing was a peaceful atmosphere in the pint-sized, six-table eatery with the temple-shaped wall alcoves and elaborate, tasselled fabric light shades. Our reverie was broken only by the constant take-out traffic. In place of beef, we requested the reshmi kebab ($12) stunningly delicious with its coriander, garlic and ginger tones. Our order of fish pakoras ($8) seemed a bit small, but what we received was certainly a tasty delight – piping hot and fragrant with basa fish of a melt-in-the-mouth consistency. These were garnished with red onions, cabbage and yellow peppers. We were given a sweet dip and one of yogurt and mint – the latters flavour highly complimentary to the wonderful pakoras.A specialty of the house was the goat chops ($16) and like any offering from that animal, its a little work to coax the meat off the bones. But these morsels proved well worth the toil, with their marinated deliciously in multiple spices underpinned by a potent garlic savour.Too often, a butter chickens sauce is overly sweet.Such was not the case with Spice 7s whose creamy sauce captured a perfect flavour balance while retaining that essential richness ($14).We poured this over basmati rice studded with cloves ($4).Our veggie dish was the bhindi masala ($12) – okra mingled with white onions sauteed in a tomato gravy studded with fresh ginger. Its delicious savour was tempered with a mild sweetness while the onions gave the dish some crunch. We liked this one a lot.The most fiery dish of the bunch was the fish curry ($12) intense in both its heat and spiced flavour. It had our tastebuds both reveling and simmering but the final verdict was a wholly delectable one.Mopping all of this up was a generous helping of naan bread that arrived hot and buttery. These were dishes whose flavours were all distinct; never did the curries taste meld one into another. As we prepared to set out with our doggie bags packing up the remnants of our hearty and scrumptious meal, our hosts added a dessert – gulab jamun. The syrup-drenched cheese balls are complimentary offerings to first-time visitors, we were told.It was a fitting end to a repast generous with robust, distinctive flavours and attentive service.Spice 7500 Royal Oak Dr. N.W. 587-317-8860* * * 1/2 (out of five)Pakistani-Indian cuisinePRICE: entrees around $13LICENSED: noDRESS; casualHOURS: 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Tues.-Thurs.; 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Fri.; 1 p.m.-11 p.m. Sat.; 3 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Sun.; closed Mon.CREDIT CARDS: yesWHEELCHAIRS: yes
