This place looks fancy, but in the end, it’s just another airport restaurant. Burger was average at best. Service was a little spotty, and the place was 3/4 empty. The only real bonus is that if you eat here, parking is free for 4 hours. I was meeting someone on a layover, so this was a bonus. It wasn’t terrible, but I definitely was expecting more given how much this place plays itself up as an upscale, modern restaurant & bar.
Airport restaurant locations get alot of traffic. As soon as I arrived in Calgary from vancity, I wanted a quick slab of local beef lol.We noticed Yakima, so it doesn’t hurt to try it out.I got the steak salad and it was done nicely. The beef is very fresh and had lots of flavor. The atmosphere and service is very corporate like. All in all I would say it’s a safe bet to eat here, but nothing out of this world and mind blowing.
After stumbling upon this restaurant by accident at the Calgary Airport, I have eaten here several times since. I can say that both the food has been consistently excellent and matched by great service. Though the menu is at first glance somewhat limited, there are several excellent options that suits every taste. My favourite so far is the skirt steak that is infused with smoke and is uniquely presented. The flavour is excellent and carries through nicely to the accompanying side dishes. I have also enjoyed the charucturie which is accompanied by a wonderful whole grain mustard that sets off the flavours of the meat and cheese nicely. Do not miss the fig and date sticky pudding for dessert! The service provided has also been excellent even with a couple of long dinners that have stretched for a few hours. Both the servers and manager checked on us regularly and made sure we were well looked after. Though I’m not totally sold on the atmosphere of the restaurant – it can be somewhat busy and the open concept is less than cosy, the intimate service actually compensates for this. The valet service is also a great bonus and makes the drive to the airport with it and convenient.
Don’t be fooled by the plating like I was. Everything looks so good but it was one of the worst meals I’ve had. We ordered churros for our appetizer and the churros were delicious but a bit confusing. They’re covered in sugar and served with a thick tatziki type sauce. They should definitely be switched to desert or changed up a bit. Then we had a burger and turkey sandwich with salad and prawn bisque. The burger was a giant tough chewy meatball and the bun was so thick and stale and the toppings nonexistent. I had to take the bread off ( I love bread) and saw into the burger. I only ate 1/4 of the meatball. The soup had a funny, not appealing flavour so I didn’t go further with that and my friends salad was drenched to the point of soggy leaves with dressing. We didn’t finish that either. I can’t comment on the turkey sandwich because I didn’t try it but it was definitely between a lot of bread. I would go for churros if I’m at the airport, but I’d ask for chocolate sauce along with the tatziki and see what goes better.
