Wow!! Tried to give this place a try for takeout. I asked if I could place an order and the guy said no and hung up on me. That’s it – one word.

If you plan to eat here ask for your food Chinese style, otherwise they will consider you a Laowai!! I’m going to give them a chance on this one… Let’s hope they do better next time!!

I came here for a family dinner as my mom really wanted to try this restaurant. I didn’t realize it was a Szechuan restaurant until we arrived, which was fine with me since I love super spicy foods. The menu is vast with the majority of dishes being spicy. We tried the pig ears which were nothing special. The green beans with minced pork were flavorful but not the best I’ve had. I prefer Hans version more. The deep fried chicken with chilis was my favorite dish but I generally love this dish. The chicken pieces were a good portion of meat and bone and it was very flavorful. The fish maw soup was on the bland side. The beef in hot sauce was also a winner and a must order if you like spicy foods. The ribs braised in sweet brown sauce was a disappointment and not what I had expected. The pieces were too large and the dish missed the mark. The tea smoked duck was not bad although not the best I’ve had. The deep fried pumpkin in salted egg yolk sauce was different as it had a sweet glaze on it and I prefer the drier variety. The seafood hand pulled noodles were pretty good but lacking in the seafood department. The restaurant used to house Snow Palace. It’s a smaller restaurant but not terribly busy so unless you’re going with a huge group it’s not necessary to make reservations. There were only two servers for the whole restaurant and service is not attentive and it took a while to flag down one of them. While placing my order the server suddenly left half way to pick up the phone and bring the order to the kitchen before returning. I would not say it’s one of the best Szechuan restaurants in Calgary but acceptable if you live in the area and don’t want to drive around.

This was one of the worst Chinese restaurants I have ever eaten from. The ginger beef was dry with no sauce, the chicken with pineapple was more pineapple than chicken and when you did get a piece of chicken there was so much batter around it it was like where’s the chicken. I will never have food from here again. I will stick to Wok with Dave in ranch lands. He knows how to do it right with flavour.

This is my second visit in one week. I like this restaurant. They are specialized in chinese hot and spicy food and also the northern authentic chinese food. Dumpling and their cold dishes are are great. Their smoky duck (not Peking duck) is tender, juicy and full of smoke flavor and is so delicious. Will go back again!

The smoked duck (not Peking) was amazing. Rich smokey flavour, not dried out. The dumplings on the other hand was pretty bad. Dried up on the inside and the crust was way too thick. Out of the 5 dishes, 3 were pretty good so it’s a hit or miss
