Runny flavorless sauce and tough meat.We ordered Bulgogi beef with Rice and Mongolian Noodles. I figured hey, how can you screw those up right? Both sauces were incredibly watered down leaving a runny liquid at the bottom of the bowl. Luckily the udon noodles are delicious themselves. The beef had all its gristle left on so some pieces I couldn’t even eat. What meat we did have. I have literally had better bulgogi sauce out of a jar at superstore, at least it was consistent with a sauce. Not worth the visit even with a 2 for 1 coupon. There are way better noodle places in Calgary. On a positive (which is why it didn’t get a 1) the restaurant was clean, organized and the staff were polite. I just think they either don’t know what they are doing or Wok Box in general is just pretty awful.
Worst. Thought I’d try something new and man was I dissappointed. The place was over priced, staff was under trained and the things I wanted on the menu weren’t available. I ordered won ton soup and I got broth with won ton wrapper there was barely any meat. The overall experience was confusing they served a mixture of foods everything from Chinese to Vietnamese to Indian foods I didn’t know what to think. Do yourself a favour and just hit up a nice restaurant for the kind of money your gonna spend there it’s just not worth it.
Just The Worst Kind of Food. You can’t really fault the service as it is pretty quick but the end result is just terrible. I tried the one on 17th Ave when it was there and found it to be some of the worst food I had ever tried. Gooey, bland chicken and a sauces that just taste of nothing.I work nearby and thought I would give this a second chance and if anything it is worse. They have a simple recipe for every dish. Cook plain chicken in a wok, have a load of different sauces and the mushiest rice available to mankind. You want butter chicken? Add craptastic rice, chuck bland chicken in and pour (unspicy, from a jar, gloopy) sauce over and voila – the worst butter chicken ever.Maybe the gimmick here is the box, or maybe the wok but one thing is for sure it sure ain’t the food.
Better than the rest….. We’ve tried a couple of the other lWok Box ocations and found the Quarry Park location is really good at service and food quality. I like hot & spicy and they have a few good options on the menu, though I’ll warn you that the Dan Dan is just a bit too hot for me. My favorites: singapore cashew with beef, jungle curry (better with rice than noodles), the dish that comes with shrimp and chicken. Less spicy but delicious: ginger beef and the bulgogi.
