I can’t see a recent review here and they all make this place sound good but don’t fall for that trap. I love desserts. Especially locally made ones made by hand. I can grab a generic cheesecake at Superstore for example but choose not to. Because I love places that can make a cake of their own stick out. A slice of cheesecake here is $4.50. That sounded good to me, as long as it would be good. They are frozen so I put it in the fridge to defrost, then in my excitement I returned 2 hours later and shoved a piece of a slice in the box directly into my mouth. Then I waited. And waited. My palates did not sing. In fact I felt like I was eating Safeway Cheesecake or something. In fact, late on the day I gave my dad a slice and he never really noticed a difference. In other words I am disappointed. The service however was pretty good.

However, recently I went to purchase a cake that I thought was the Wayne Gretzky of chocolate cakes there called the Blackout Torte. Well, once the star of the team, this cake was re-configured/designed and in my opinion has been religated to the 3 string and sits on the bench. It has retained the same name but the cake is an utter disappointment as it is not the same as it once was. Gone are things like the fudge rosettes and the extrememly rich dark chocolate cake. It has morphed into a very sweet mousse type cake. Someone made a bad business decision on changing the recipe for this cake. Let’s just say the old cake no longer exists, only the name. I will not be buying it again. During a vacation last February in Playa del Carmen (at a Starbucks Cafe) we expereince the taste of the old Wow Factor Blackoute Torte which prompted me to come back here and try it again, but this time with very disappointing results. I will have to hope someone else picks up the ball in the Edmonton area and brings back this decadently fabulous cake. Maybe someone at Wow Factor can realize their mistake and bring back the old Blackout Torte.

Awesome. Wow factor is a place that makes desserts for local restaurants, so the quality is VERY high. The great thing is you can go in there and buy a huge cake or cheese cake that is amazing quality for a great price.I think they sell the ones with minor imperfections to the public, its nothing that you can notice by eye, but doesn’t meet the quality for going out to a restaurant.Their key lime cheese cake is the best, just buy it and keep it in the freezer and thaw when friends come over, it will impress.
