Really liked that their noodles were Egg based, therefore chewy and thicker similar to Canto style egg noodles. They also did the gooey center perfect on the soft boiled. Unfortunately the broth was just okay~Its also in an abysmal location, lack of foot traffic will probably kill this place

Tried this Ramen place out today as I noticed that Africana was no longer there. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen and it was almost inedible – broth had too much bonito and just has an offputting fishy taste. Temperature of the soup was lukewarm. Was not a pleasant experience at all and definitely not recommended.

If you have not tried this not-so-busy ramen place, you should! There is finally consistency with its foodquality in the last couple of months. Why line up elsewhere if you don’t mind driving a few more minutes to this restaurant close to the Deer Foot Mall. I love their #1 and #3 with no MSG but tasty soups. Their chicken bits and dumplings are my favourites as well. Their Japanese tea is the best in town (price and quality wise)and itgoes well with the ramen.Decor is so so but we got good and friendly service.

If you like a more authentic tasty broth and thicker chewy noodles, this is the place to go to. Really can’t complain about much, it’s a hit on all fronts: noodles were good, broth was good, meat was good, service was good. Usually I find most other ramen places have 2 out of the 3 good, noodles, broth, or meat. I guess the only knock on this place would be the interior but it’s ramen and not fine dining so I’m not going to detract it from the rating.

I visited Gagana for the first time this evening with my family and 14 month old baby. The location was very easy to find, even with the road construction. First impression of the space is that it was clean and very spacious. We had one employee doting on us the entire time as the host and server. He was very accommodating and kind to my Grandmother (as well as the rest of our party of 8). I ordered the Pork Rice Bowl to share with my kiddo. B was beginning to get hangry but the food came out very quickly. Our portion was huge, especially for the price. B gobbled down lots of rice and the pork was perfectly tender for him too. I really enjoyed the flavours. Again, our server was amazing making sure everyone’s needs were met, dishes were cleared, tea/water was always full. My family members each ordered soup ramen and one dipping ramen. Everyone had good things to say about their dishes and there were no leftovers. I agree with the other reviews claiming that the noodles were a bit chewy. As much as I love ramen, I’m no expert on cooking it so I wonder if maybe that’s how they do it in the region of Japan where they’re from. The menu is small, which is good for someone like me who doesn’t do too well with too many options. I think they only do a handful of things, but do them very well. The soup is marketed as made without salt or MSG, it was good and felt guilt-free. (Even though I ordered a rice dish, I tried some of my Mom’s ramen). I later saw a table marker advertising udon. I love udon, will have to try the next time I’m in.

Unfortunately I did not take a photo – which is really not like me. We ordered through skipthedishes. The food came hot and nicely packed. The spicy miso ramen was incredibly spicy more than anything we have had before. I tried the dipping ramen which was nice. The meat and noodles were definitely a hit. I would like to try in house next time !

I was really hoping I would love Gagana because I live fairly close and I’m a huge ramen lover. Unfortunately, their ramen is just not my cup of tea. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and my husband ordered a spicy noodle and deep fried chicken. The noodles are quite good – chewy and on the thicker end of things – but the broth was just off to me. The soup was really thick, and the flavour did not taste like pork to me. Plus, my understanding is that tonkotsu is supposed to have a milky broth, but the broth at Gagana was not milky at all – in fact, it was quite greasy. My husband said his spicy version really lacked flavour as well. He said it tasted like they used the hot chili powder that comes with instant noodles. The chicken had a very heavy beer or alcohol flavour (not sure if it’s the marinade) but it really overpowered the dish and we couldn’t take chicken at all. Overall, we were not impressed and won’t be going back. Some may like the flavours and thickness of the broth; they just weren’t for me.
