Great place to get a super fresh sandwich made just the way you like. There is a cafeteria style ordering system complete with trays and self serve beverages. They offer homemade soups and sandwiches with fresh baked bread, roasted meats, and a nice selection of fresh veggies. You can tell Fife n Dekel offers quality food by the long lines and large groups of seniors there for lunch – don’t let this deter you as the line moves fast and it is worth the wait. Make sure to try the pie, probably the best in town.
Love it here! Great place for lunch, just be sure to get here early before the line up starts. ALL pies are absolutely delicious, and I love the chicken salad and sunflower bread. The catering is also fantastic, and I order it for the office quite frequently. The food they cater is fresh, on time, and the order is always perfect. They are also extremely accommodating with dietary requests!
Coworkers rave about this place and have a regular lunch every week – but I don’t get the hype. The pies are definitely great, but the sandwiches are standard. I mean, it’s nice to have fresh ingredients made to order, but there’s nothing that’s blown me away.
We had not been here before and wanted to try it since the reviews were remarkably good. However, we were very surprised at how rude the service was from the cashier A****a (name withheld). We had 3 kids (all above 11) with us and we wanted to try their pies with 20 mins left until close … Plenty of time for 6 hungry people. She was rude, impatient and condescending with us. I asked her why she was treating us so rudely. It seemed that she did not want to serve us, instead wanted to close and leave early and we spoiled her plans to do so. We also overheard her complain about us to her co-workers while we ate our pies. We were quickly shooed away with 5 mins left before they closed. I was considering to use their catering service for a large business luncheon but if this is any indication on how they treat their guest I will not consider patronizing this business or recommending it to others.
My coworkers love this place but I don’t get it.. Super basic food fare is what you should expect from fife n’ dekel, that can sometimes be nice depending on what we are referring to, but for a sandwich shop? The food is ok I guess, bland to be sure, but not straight-up bad. it is anything but interesting though, in fact its straight up plain. And there-in lies my main problem with this place, what you can get here you can quickly and easily replicate at home for a fraction of the cost, and with no culinary skills what so ever (and probably still make a much tastier sandwich). A sandwich is one of the easiest things to make so for a sandwich shop to make sense to me it really has to do something more than just be a sandwich. The materials and the types of sandwiches you can get at fife are super simple and run-of-the-mill, compare this to a place like farrow which is always coming up with interesting concepts and using non-conventional ingredients, there’s just nothing exciting or different about fife. Raving about this place to me feels like getting excited about a place that just serves bacon and eggs. I just don’t get it, I don’t understand why you would go here as opposed to anywhere else.disclaimer: I have never tried their pies though which I have heard are pretty great, and seem to make sense for the whole basic food thing they are going for (pies just like mom used to make), I’m just not really a pie guy though.Just make a sandwich at home and use the money you save to go somewhere interesting
Gluten-free only for catering…. Called this morning to ask if they had gluten-free bread on-hand for a gluten-free sandwich at lunch (as gluten-free as you can get with a sandwich place, I suppose) because some coworkers wanted to go. The lady said she was pretty sure they did and put me on hold to confirm. She came back and said that they did. I asked, again, if I could just walk in at lunch and order a sandwich with gluten-free bread as I thought it was only for catering (my company has ordered lunch from here in the past) and she lady again indicated that I could. Showed up there for lunch – surprised – gluten-free sandwiches need to be ordered at least a day ahead of time and are only available via catering. Cool story – I like the one that I was told earlier in the day before you ruined my lunch. I get that FnD doesn’t want the liability, but if Press’d can do it, not sure why this place can’t. BTW – had FnD sandwiches before I was diagnosed with celiac, and nothing really to rave about, anyway.
What has happened to this place?. Stopped by for a sandwich and pie. This was one of my favourites lunch stops. Lots of empty tables, mostly dirty. Lots of staff behind the counter, one had her elbows on the counter just looking around. Sour cream strawberry and rhubarb pie had a tough crust on top, couldn’t break through with my fork. Can’t believe it’s the same place I used to go to. Definitely a disappointment now.
