Not sure what I like more….the steak or the sourdough bread before hand. Love the keg…steak always cooked perfect. They always go the extra mile to make sure its done right… toss some shrimp in and a twice baked potato and it a perfect meal. Always so busy though…. all day every day….but I can see why. Love it.
Reviewing chain restaurants are kinda tough but Keg is one of those places that are consistently good. I usually grab some escargot, tuna tartare, calamari and a ribeye. Well any steak here is pretty good and cooked properly. The mashed potatoes are great and also the asparagus that comes with most steaks. I try and come during the surf and turf special when you can get a side of lobster tail for a good price. Dessert is also decent here also as the size is huge and it’s fairly priced.SEC location is a good spot, probably the second best in Edmonton next to the Whyte ave location. Service is always good so come here, eat a huge steak, take a big nap.Sal says: Just Try It (4/5)
This location CONTINUES to disappoint me. Every single time I go there with a party of two-5 one persons steak is make incorrectly. Is medium well that hard to make? How can you run out of a twice baked potato? And asparagus? Seriously. I’m disappointed in myself for giving THIS location yet another try. So I gave the keg another try this time I went out of my way to THE WEST END; I will never ever ever visit the KEG again again I drove out of my way for another bad experience. Again I had to return my dinner. Troyan is the area manager of the keg and is a terrible terrible manager. He didn’t listen to a word I said. He was argumentative over the phone after I took MY time to explain AGAIN the TERRIBLE experience I had. He also refused to rectify the problem or have a care in this world that ANOTHER dinner of mine was WASTED. I don’t think these people even begin to think that they are wasting meat, animals. I had to sit there for close to 2 hours before I was even able to leave with yet another steak that was overcooked. Do you think when you come to the table and ask how everything is for the second time I’m going to sit there and wait for a third. Give me a break. The food was sent back again I cannot believe this is a higher end restaurant . The keg in general will never ever ever get another cent from my wallet again. Ever. What is the point of doing FEEDBACK if it is ignored? Never again.
Now… I really wanted to add this review because I’ve been consistently impressed with the Keg’s customer service. And it’s not just this Keg location but generally all of them. I typically don’t go to the Keg, because I usually prefer other types of cuisines but occasionally I go due to some event or another. I want to list my experiences:1. A few years ago… My friend ordered a steak… He thought it was rather excessively grisly (sp?) though I disagreed and my friend ate it anyways. After some thought, when they took away my plate I thought I’d just mention it to them that perhaps it was a bit too grisly (sp?). Shortly after, one of the chefs came out!!! I was so taken back. Embarrassed, I explained our opinion. He apologized and they didn’t charge us for it!2. (Vancouver location???) A few years ago… The Keg used to have this tempura beans and asparagus starter. I loved this starter and always order it whenever I came to the Keg. When I found out it was discontinued I was dismayed and expressed my disappointment. The server happened to be the manager (I have no idea why – maybe they were short staffed) and she decided to give us another free appetizer as an apology! 3. Today’s experience… My hubby ordered these bacon wrapped lobster things. As we ate them we realized it was actually bacon wrapped scallops. We figured we must have pointed at the wrong item on the menu or said the wrong thing. My hubby still thought they were pretty darn tasty so he just finished them and we figured we’ll just check the bill after. Sure enough, we were charged for lobster. We notified the server hoping that we would pay scallop prices instead. The manager quickly came by, sincerely apologized, acknowledged their error and gave us the appetizer for free. Even though perhaps I’m not a huge fan of the Keg cuisine, I always come away pleasantly surprised. They are humble and extremely polite. Kudos to the service at the Keg!!
I love Keg’s food! Every single dish my husband and I had was good so far, in this location and on Whyte! Also, don’t care that it’s a chain restaurant if the service and food are good. We were here last night, had pistachio salmon and bacon wrapped chicken, both were delicious. I appreciate their consistency in quality with food. Haven’t tried their lobster yet, definitely on our list this summer. Service is also very good. Xavier and Brandon at the bar are two great fellas working there! Sorry guys if I misspelled your names 🙂 I would recommend it, also make sure you try their appetizers.
The keg is always a great place to get a dependable steak in Edmonton. Although I usually do not prefer visiting chain restaurants I do like the keg for its consistency.
Used to like this place a lot. The last couple of times I’ve been to this location have been a big disappointment. 3 out of 4 of my last visits my steak was either undercooked or overcooked. One of the visits they had to bring me a new steak 4 times before I could not wait any longer for a medium rare and just ate whatever came next. The 4th visit my friend’s steak was overcooked and it took them 2 more tries to get it right, as well our lobsters were way overdone and dried completely out. What saved them was their service through all of this. They compensated us generously for the hassle. I may give this location one last try for that reason alone.
