Best Chinese style Korean food in Edmonton. They use to have a location in China town and they closed it. I was very disappointed because I don’t enjoy having to drive to the boonies where this restaurant is currently located. However the food is authentic. I like how the chef is creative and the portion are generous. I can’t go anywhere else for Korean food in Edmonton.
Yummmm. The food is really good and affordable with great portion sizes. Honestly, this is probably one of my favourite Korean restaurants in Edmonton. The only down side is the location, the space and the fact that they have 1 or 2 servers working on a super busy Saturday dinner service. I really felt bad for the poor waitress who was running around like mad. We ordered the galbi ($18), it came with 3 strips which is per usual and a bowl of rice. The sauce is sweet yet salty at the same time. But if you pair it with rice, you don’t notice the saltiness as much. The galbi was cooked perfectly, tender meat that was easy to peel off the bone. Next was the large order fried chicken or Kanpoolgi ($23), in a garlic chili soy sauce. The sauce is pretty unique, and I think it is exclusive to this place? The fried chicken was boneless and in perfect bite size strips. The chili sauce was sweet with the right amount of heat to every bite. Definitely a recommendation if you would like to try a different type of fried chicken. There is more than enough fried chicken to be shared among a group of 4. Lastly, we ordered the japchae for 2 ($20). Most places serve their japchae on the drier side, but this place was not skimpy on the sauce. It was really nice soy sauce based sauce mixed with vegetables and shrimp. Overall, portions are great, filling and affordable. Just make sure you get here earlier, or you’ll be waiting for a table for sure! For four people, it came out to be $16/pp without tips which is a great find for Korean food in the south side.
So we ordered the Combo A which consisted of Tangsuyuk (fried pork), KanpoongGi (fried chicken), and Jajangmyeon and it fed 3-4 people. The chicken was super delicious and the sauce was quite spicy which I loved. The pork to me was similar to sweet and sour pork you would order from a Chinese restaurant but the sauce was very thick and it had a citrus taste to it. Of course, the Jajangmyeon was also very tasty. Service was great and if you split the bill, it came out to be about ~$15-16 per person. oliveoiloilpaint.com
Great place tucked away in an industrial area of town. Has a good variety of food on the menu, and bonus cause they have jajangmyeon (black bean noodles)! Great value, only $9.00 for a big bowl (other places I’ve been to were more expensive with smaller portions). Jjamppong was nice and spicy. I also liked having the service buzzer at the table so we didn’t have to try to flag the staff down. The decor is a bit drab and chairs aren’t the most comfortable, but the food makes up for it. Would definitely go back for more in the future!
Since the new owner took over the restaurant, food quality went down. Just re tried food not long ago I had to find hairs from sauce for deep fried pork. pork wasn’t marinated properly so the smell of pork was too strong as I bites. I heard the rumor that cook left restaurant for tofu house, maybe that is the reason behind this problem. bokkeum zzambong dish vegetables weren’t cooked proper either. every bite become instant disappointment. I would not eat out here again for long..long time.
Like others have said, this is an authentic Korean restaurant frequented by Koreans in Edmonton. Located in an industrial area. Don’t complain if you haven’t followed others’ advice – get what is recommended – black bean noodles, spicy soup with either seafood or beef, fried chicken. This is NOT the place to order barbecued Korean meat.
I eat here a lot usually for lunch. It’s authentic Korean style Chinese which is actually it’s own kind of Korean cuisine. They also have the straight up Famous korean dishes,.The black noodles dish, make sure to order it with the fresh sauce variety, it’s a game changer. It has crispy fried onions in it. I go here with someone who lived in Korea for years and is married to a Korean, we are the only non Koreans there when we eat pretty much every time. It’s always packed at lunch hour by 1230. The squid and pork stirfries are good, and well, everything is. Its usually pretty quick. The only thing that sucks is lately they seem to not be open for lunch until noon and I usually have to take an early lunch with work.
