We came for a nice Valentines dinner and dropped $350 on it. They screwed everything up but the oysters. Couldnt find my reservation, gave us a wobbly table that couldnt be fixed, under the freezing air conditioning. Food came in pre set menu, which came out generic and overcooked. Asked for medium rare lamb and it came out somehow both overcooked and cold. My date ordered the swordfish which was hard and overcooked, like the later evening plates were just thrown together and then sat around. The preset menu was $80 per person plus auto gratuity of 15% and for that we got a small but good bowl of soup, a bowl with 2 shrimp and 2 scallops with some cream, overcooked and cold lamb, dessert of small premade cake square. The lamb if done well should have been $30 maybe, but how the hell a cup of soup, a cocktail party dessert square and a small appetizer could come to the other $50 is beyond me. Whats really disappointing is that weve been really excited to go here for a long time, and weve heard great things, but this was like eating at a cheap chain and yet paying WAY to much for it. Word to the wise, never go if its a preset menu, itll be preproduced, expensive and not what theyre famous for, but rather whats convenient for the chef to make a lot of, and fast. Leave that to McDonalds.
Great food better service, looking forward to visiting again soon. The atmosphere was quiet & intimate, a wonderful & tasty experience to round out a perfect night.
My boyfriend and I have been to Vons a few times, however the last time we did stop in for a nice meal out it was definitely lacking from the previous experiences. I cant say I was impressed with the service, we ordered the buck a shucks, and also an appetizer, the first order of buck a shucks came, but we never did receive our appetizer we got our meals…the last buck a shuck ordered came while we were eating our meal but my boyfriend was hoping for it to be an appetizer. The meal was mediocre this time around as well which was disappointing as we were coming with high expectations from the previous visits. The manager came by our table and asked how everything was and we were completely honest, he offered us a dessert, which we turned down because honestly a dessert doesnt fix the issue and we werent looking for any kind of hand out, hopefully he took what we said and made the appropriate changes. Im not saying I wont go back and give Vons another chance but it wont be anytime soon.
Came here on Tuesday happy hour with a group of 2, the reason we came here mainly for oysters buck a shuck.Happy hour buck a shuck 4 630pm (Oysters price from $1.5 – $3 each):Escargot bourguignonne $13.25 4.5/5burgundy snails, garlic onion butter, infusion of brandy and Chablis, caf de Paris butter, three-cheese blend and garlic focaccia breadThe bread didnt have any flavor of cheese and garlic taste, but the butter sauce of escargot was amazing. We used the bread to clean out every single inch of the escargot plate.Oysters $1.5EA 4/5It was only 10 types of $1.5 oysters and we tried 8 of them (Yes, we had 4 dozen of oysters). My favorite still komoguay and royal miyagi. It was $1 each before and now is $1.5, but still reasonable compare to other places. Not my first time here, I personally prefer oysters over other food on the menu here. Food here is not consistent.Services 5/5 Overall food 4/5Would I recommend Oysters then Yes
Made a reservation, they didnt have enough seats ready for what was reserved. Long wait for service, food was subpar. Pretty sure the lobster tail gave my wife food poisoning.
Mediocre food for astronomical prices. Bland, boring steak. Desiccated crab legs. Buck a shuck now buck fifty, two buck fifty and three buck (a shuck?).It’s a pity, the wait staff are friendly (as in actual servers) and are trying their best, the managers are pretentious and pissy.Went during dinner hours, restaurant was deserted for good reason. thepretentiousfoodsnob.wordpress.com
Service was kind of slow, but everyone was very nice and helpful. If you want oysters it’s hard to beat the buck a shuck. But we also ordered a charcuterie that was pretty weak. For $30 it came with prosciutto, salami, white cheddar, and canned mini corns. The whole thing wasn’t all bad. But instead of bread it came with plain Ritz crackers. That was kind of hard to forgive…
