Buckle up people this was a wild ride. Started out strong: margaritas were delicious and the server was polite. However it then started to slide. It took at least twenty minutes to get four drinks and the restaurant was not busy. Our server though polite simply could not handle bringing more than one thing at a time to our table, and forgot things. Our waitress also refused to honour their happy hour drink prices even though it was before the cut off time. We all received our food at different times with one meal not showing up until after everyone else had finished eating. At which point we ordered another round and dessert. This is where it gets really bad… one of our desserts (tres leches cake) came out and as we were eating it we noticed it had MOULD…. honest to god MOULD. This could have caused a severe allergic reaction as our friend is allergic to penicillin. At this point the server didnt seem to care and simply took the plate and left offering no apologies … for MOULD…. in our food…. then our bills came and we had to ask for a discount…. for MOULD in our food. Overall this was a horrific experience and I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy. (The green stuff in the picture is MOULD)
We went for Mexican bar hopping at 17th Ave and this place is really good. Their tequila margarita taste is more authentic compared to other Mexican bars. Staff are friendly. If youre craving for Mexican drinks and food come here. They have happy hour at 3-6. I would go back there again if I have a chance. Gracias amigos!
I had such high hopes for this restaurant as I had been following their Instagram page for awhile and the food/drinks looked amazing. I finally visited the restaurant this past weekend with a few work colleagues. I arrived at 4:00 PM on Saturday for the Happy Hour specials. We waited for a server to come and take our drink order for probably 15 minutes. That should have been an immediate red flag for me. Our server was inattentive and rarely checked in on us the entire time we were there. Not only did our server not check in but they completely forgot my order. I should have expected this as he did not write the order down. My colleagues received their food and I waited over 10 minutes before I had to flag down my server and advise that I was still hadnt received my items. He remembered at that point that he didnt even put the order in and went to the kitchen. I had told him at the time I ordered my items (fish tacos) that I was allergic to onions. I reminded him again when having to order my items again. My items arrived another 10 minutes later (after everyone else was done eating mind you) with onions. I of course sent the items back. They returned within 5 minutes and I found that the chef had just picked off most of the onions. Completely disappointing. I would not recommend coming to this restaurant if you have any food allergies as they do not take them seriously. The staff did not take responsibility or apologize for the poor quality of customer service. I was not even offered a discount for the many inconveniences. I commented on the Instagram page for Tropical to advise on the situation. The page owner DELETED my comment and then reached out to me directly. They were not overly helpful and there was no resolution. Incredibly unprofessional. I do not recommend this restaurant and I will not be returning.
The food here is fantastic but the service is horrendous! Got sat at a table and had to wait for over 5 min to get a menu, then another 7-10 to get a server to come back to take our drink order. Then the drinks took no joke 15+ min. A table is that sat actually walked out since they hadnt received drinks they ordered for over 20+ min. Would return but maybe during the day!
After waiting 15 minutes to order many of us received neither food nor beverages. Besides the horrendous service my pescatarian friend (who ordered fish tacos) was fed pork for the first time in years and told it was fish. When we talked to the manager she brought the server over– yelled at her then stormed off. We still received our $100 tab 20 minutes later without so much as a word. Will never return and I recommend all others do the same.
Went here on a Friday evening and I have to say that the food was pretty good. After we received our food the owner came by and checked on us numerous times.The only thing I’d complain about is that the fish taco had too much mayo. Service was fast and I’d come back for sure!
The food is so so in general. Tuesdays and Thursdays taco nights are good deals and the fish taco is decent. Drinks tend to be pricy but food is reasonably priced. Service is friendly but not the most attentive.
