Ordered from Skip the Dishes and it was delicious! We got a pizza, pasta, and Greek salad. Food was fresh, generously portioned (plan for leftovers!), and tasty. They were quick too. Would absolutely try again.
A friend had been to Universe a year ago and wanted to go back. I was lucky enough to be invited along and it was a fantastic experience. The biggest impression: portion sizes! Wow. You get a lot of food. Most of the breakfast/brunch items are under $20 and will keep you full all day.I ordered the Universe eggs Benedict because it is served with Montreal Smoked Meat, and that neat is quite tender and flavourful here. Generous amounts of Hollandaise, eggs cooked perfectly medium as requested, and a nice sampling of fruit with a hearty portion of hashbrowns rounded out the meal. The service was attentive and friendly, the coffee was good and refilled often. The noise level wasnt overwhelming even though the place was full by the time we left. So it has a good contemporary feel thats not pretentious or overbearing. A mix of classy and welcoming. If you want to fill up for breakfast, this is a great place to do it. Give it a try!
I ordered via skip the dishes and was sent the incorrect item, I received a credit so I tried to order again a subsequent night and I did not receive my food at all. Skip says that the delivery person gave my food to a person in the lobby instead of delivering it to me at my apartment and refused to credit my money back. Im a believer in second chances, but in the case of Universe Restaurant there will be no third. Would not recommend.
This place is awesome. I’m so bummed I haven’t visited sooner. The staff is lovely and though the wait times for your food to be made are a little long, it is well worth the wait. Portions are giant and the quality is excellent. There are so many items on the menu, I don’t know when I would have time to try them all. Also a great place to people watch as this is a busy street corner on 17th.
Just like Montreal! Great food, generous portions, friendly staff. We’ll be back to try breakfast next time but it will be hard not to order the poutine.
Ordered through justeat because I had a credit on that account. I had only just heard about this place recently but heard their portions are big and breakfasts were amazing. I ordered for dinner as I was craving some Italian food. I ordered chicken Parmesan and spaghetti for the next days lunch. I also ordered the standard poutine which came to about $33 after delivery and tax. I heard portions are huge but wow! If you are watching your weight the poutine itself easily feeds 2-3 people and the parm and pasta also. I was tempted to weigh the packages lol they were hefty! Taste was also very good! I really enjoyed it. The sauce was good, both dishes had lots of cheese and sauce and the chicken was tender but outside was not crispy. Delivery person was good and even quicker than they estimated, and food was quite hot still! I would order again and definitely want to go by for brunch soon!
Expensive, bland, and just bad. I will never return. We ordered pick up as it’s just down the road from us, and I was craving pasta so tried their bacon carbonara. It was so bad. The portion size was huge, I’ll give them that, but there was hardly any bacon, and the bacon that was there was flabby and not rendered out and really felt raw. It just had no flavour and at $18 was a total waste of money, as I literally took three bites before throwing it out. I considered adding ingredients myself in an attempt to salvage it, but the raw bacon was too much of a turn off and would have required way too much effort to pick out. My boyfriend got their universe burger. This thing is huge. He said it was alright, but nothing special. Seemed a bit gimmicky to me. The fries weren’t crispy at all, though again what they lack in quality and taste they make up with in sheer volume. I’d have been more happy with less food, providing the food actually tasted good.
