Always Good food ;). Just moved to Sylvan, and there isn’t many choices for restaurants, but nonetheless, everytime we’ve gone to Joeys we haven’t been disappointed! Food is always hot, good portions, and even tho the servers are clearly over worked and under staffed, they seem to do their best.
Cold food..ick. I wish that the food was served on a steaming hot plate. By the time the cold plate absorbs the hot foods heat, the food is cold & tastes awful. Margarine wouldnt even melt on hot veggie side. The only reason I went there was because my 80 something yr parents wanted to.
Last Chance – Never Again. Judging by the lack of flavor and culinary skills involved in the food here, I’m guessing the new owners of this location are the same as the ones who took over Joey’s North in Red Deer. The other day, I ordered the Chicken & Shrimp combo from the restaurant in Sylvan Lake. I should have brought it back and cooked the meal myself at home, for the $20 I paid for this garbage. Let’s start with the chicken. In the past, Joey’s always had such juicy, tender, delicious chicken with a crispy seasoned skin that was to die for. Now, there is no skin to speak of, the texture is rubbery, the flavor is non-existent, and it gushes water when cut into (obviously they buy bulk, cheap, frozen meat). The teriyaki sauce on it (or what there was of it) was also completely devoid of flavor. It tasted like a very cheap bottled sauce, like VH.Now onto the shrimp. It was supposed to come with crispy shrimp. The batter was drenched in grease, completely soggy, the shrimp itself was chewy and rubbery and overall, flavorless. For a restaurant that specializes in seafood, I would expect they could at least cook shrimp properly. It should be meaty, tender, succulent – not hard and squeak along my teeth when I bite into it. Lastly, let’s look at the sides. The mashed potatoes were barely seasoned, if it all. The gravy very obviously came from a package of dry mix and the coleslaw was (surprise, surprise) as bland as could be.I’m through with Joey’s Only. The rotisserie chicken is no longer available, the seafood is so ill-prepared, I’m surprised no one has yet died, and the flavor is so lacking, I’d be shocked to discover a grain of salt in that kitchen. Don’t waste your time or money here. Go next door for sushi instead. Protip, owners of Joey’s Only: Buy fresh ingredients and hire chefs that know how to cook seafood. Or, better yet, sell the restaurant to someone who isn’t so cheap and uncaring about the quality of food you serve.
Where is the food. Ordered a 2 piece fish and chips. smallest serving I ever have been served in restaurant. fish sticks are bigger
I had fish and it was very nice but our waitress was not very professional.. No re-fills for the kids. She put 2 desserts in front of my daughter. Didn’t ask if anyone wanted another drink never mind coffee! Wouldn’t go back.
The service has really changed in this restaurant. You have to stand and wait to get in, once inside you have to wait a long time for service(we had to get up and ask for service), a long time for the order, we were not asked if we enjoyed the meal, no refill on drinks, no condiments and the food was not as good as prior owners.
I love Joeys Only, foods always good!! Need to work on pick-up orders, have been wrong on several occasions
