Stopped by this quaint bakery for a treat to take home. It was such a difficult choice because of the variety of selections available! My mother picked the red fruit tart and I decided to have the pistachio chocolate cake. The tart was a custard with raspberries, cherries and blueberries in a rich butter pastry. The raspberries had a tartness that balanced the sweetness of the other fruits perfectly . The elegant pistachio cake had a delicious pairing of nut and dark chocolate separated by soft layers of cake and cream…a perfect choice for someone who doesn’t want an overly sweet dessert. Also available were a multitude of very beautiful and tasty looking pastries, cookies, and several lunch time options like sandwiches, soup, quiche and crepes. I saw the chef busy in the kitchen and from reading a newspaper article about the shop know that she had difficulty sourcing halal and kosher baking items. In a previous review it was suggested that items were not baked in house, if this is the case I can only assume it was from sourcing issues from early days after first opening. The staff were pleasant and helpfully and gave some great suggestions that helped us make our final choices. We will definitely be visiting again and hopefully enjoying the patio area once it is set up.

Amazing Quiche (get the chicken mushroom quiche!), the Macarons were not too sweet, great apple crumble. You can’t go wrong with this place. I was pleasantly surprised. This place got me hooked!

You have to try this place!. We had the triple chocolate torte and some macarons and they were all out of this world. I also had an americano with my desserts and it was probably the best americano I’ve tasted.Amazing.The setting is really lovely too. Nestled on 86 st., right across from Eastwood park, the patio will be really pleasant in the summer. My daughter has decided to come here for her birthday and I am looking forward to being a regular here.

I was really excited to try the macarons, bought one of every flavour, just to find out they don’t even make them, they are not good at all.

The macarons though…. They’re not fresh or even made in store. My sister and I got suspicious after seeing the same ones at the petite bakery in WEM and found out that they’re not even made in Canada, let alone in this particular bakery Once I figured that out the place just didn’t seem right anymore. I forgave her for using her fingers to pick up my pastries and cookies, but now the place just seems tainted. The pistachio cake was really good, but I’m beginning to wonder whether that was made in house or was it made elsewhere, frozen, and brought in. My advice? Just go to Duchess.

PLEASE use TONGS!. I went to Passion de France today and picked up 4 pastries. The pastries themselves weren’t bad (although the texture of the almond pain au chocolate was more bread-like), but I can’t get past the fact that the person helping me used her hands to grab my pastries. Eventhough she was also handling money and there were tongs right in front of her. We ended up cutting off the majority of the pastries and ate just the middle bits. I won’t be back just for this reason. Too bad.
