Tried the newest burger place that opened up in the area. Basically New York fries serving burgers. Add in liquor and you get a slightly confused fast food/bar type environment. To sum it up its basically Harveys on steroids for options. Beer on tap is cheap though. Food value: $$Service: Taste:
I have tried this place twice now. Once staying in and once to go. The burgers are delicious! I shared the 6 ounce burger and fries with a friend and I have had the 4 ounce myself and it wasn’t too much food. The fries of course are always delicious! Will go back again for sure.
Being a south sider I rarely get the chance to try out new north side restaurants when they recently opened, so I was excited by the opportunity to try South St. Burger with my friends on a Saturday for lunch. Entering the building, it’s more so a fast food location where you can order your burger then sit down and enjoy without feeling pressured to leave (at least when it’s not full). The restaurant is very clean and though there is limited seating, it was pretty empty when we came in around 12:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. The service was friendly and quick, but my oh my the prices are expensive. $10 for a 4 oz True North burger with a 4oz extra patty? That’s a steep price to pay. Add to the fact that their fries are literally the same as NYF (except a bit less greasy), I felt as if it was expensive and not as worth it as other burger places. The patties were juicy and fresh, and it was nice that they gave the choice of a whole wheat or white bread. The bacon and onions in the True North burger were top notch, made to perfection. All in all, I wouldn’t go out of my way to try it and still prefer a couple other burger places in Edmonton over South St. Burger, but I wouldn’t hesitate to try it again if I was nearby. Recommended.
Hubby and I came here for a quick bite. He had the True North and I had the Mushroom Swiss. Hubby added BBQ sauce to his burger and generally liked the True North. My Mushroom Swiss was okay but dry. I found the fries a bit salty and the poutine very salty. My advice is to add a sauce of some sort to the burger and go with Fries instead of Poutine.
DEC2015 -Returned to this burger joint and received our combos after a bit of a wait. The chef was eating French fries while cooking our burgers. My burger came on a moldy bun, which I didn’t realize until after I took two bites.. Took the burger back to the cash register to let them know and see if I can get my money back.. Cash girl indicated I can only get the money back for the burger itself not my combo meal. Luckily the head office guy was in and indicated to the girl to refund the whole bill.. We left smelling like grease again. In November I gave this place a 4.5/5 stars ..after my last experience I will be giving it a 1/5! The girls behind the counter tried to blame the mishap on the people who put out the buns in the morning, however she pulls the bun from the bag, and puts the desired toppings on it, she should be looking for mold as well. The girl then began to check all the bags on the counter and threw away quite a few bags.NOV2015 -South St. Burger is new to the area. Spacious building, but limited tables/seating. Me, plus one ordered two combos (Mush Swiss & Veggie Burger) and the total was aprox. $30. Fresh beef and the Veggie Burger was surprisingly juicy -not dry like other Veggie Burgers I’ve tasted. Gravy tasted sweet, which I wasn’t a fan of… Oh, as well after we left our jackets, clothes and hair smelt like grease.. However we will be returning but maybe we’ll order and take it to go to avoid smelling like grease.
The establishment itself is quite upscale and clean. We built our own burgers and sausage. The burgers and sausage were charred. The kids wouldn’t finish eating it. The NYF were good, but potions were small. I usually can never finish the large NYF we order in the malls. The topping station is cool. You can choose whatever you want without extra charge. But let’s be honest, the $$ was built into the price of the burger. A 4 oz burger combo is $9.95. That doesn’t include cheese, which is an extra $1.00. Wanna add bacon? That’s another dollar. Overall, I’d say it was only alright.
