We had a lovely meal here with our 3 grand daughters aged 9,8 & 8. They kids enjoyed poutine off of the kids menu, my husband and I enjoyed steak and a seafood dish along with an appetizer of shrimp on pineapple chutney – a really nice combination. The staff was wonderful, engaging with the girls and the kitchen made an extra special effort with dessert. An all round nice experience!
I found great value eating here during happy hour (3 – 6 PM). The service at the bar was more than excellent. Note that you get to sit outside the Habitat restaurant in the lobby and the bar area during happy hour. The food was hit or miss depending on what you got. I enjoyed the crab cakes lots. The salt and pepper wings were very standard (not enough salt or pepper) and just deep fried to bits while being freezer burnt. The calamari was not too memorable but I did enjoy the sweet sauce that it came with. The elk meatballs sounded exotic and cool but it was really chewy and flavourless. The duck poutine was quite alright and that stood out for me. Sure a little salty still but what’s a poutine without salt? The cheese also melted off so it’s not the authentic Montreal poutine with squeaky cheese. The oysters were OK but it tasted a little rubbery overall – definitely not as good as the oysters in Vancouver (Aren’t I hard to please…). The nachos was lacking in flavour and cheese but I really appreciated the corn as it was a rare addition in nachos but it helped to elevate the nachos’ excitement a little bit (no meat here…). And to top this all off, there were $5 pints and let me tell ya, it was cold and fresh. Despite the on-and-off food tastes here, I enjoyed myself. I did find myself really stuffed from all the deep fried goodness though so be warned. Go easy on the happy hour and make sure you feel good enough to enjoy the rest of your evening. Late dinner wouldn’t be necessary after this meal…
Well, where to start. We found the atmosphere here very nice, clean and the serving staff was very friendly. We had lunch and breakfast here. Both times, as friendly as the staff was, we felt forgotten about. Often our glasses would sit empty (water, beer, coffee) and at one point we had to flag down a manager setting a nearby table to have some coffee sent over. Our lunch food was delicious (burger and chicken panini). Breakfast was another story. First of all, it took about an hour and a half from the time we sat down for the server to get us our drinks and to take our orders (we were about one of three tables in the restaurant). My husbands hollindaise sauce and potatoes were cold and there was only a few pieces of meat in the chorizo hash. Definitely a good thing he has ordered a side of sausage otherwise he would have left hungry. A friend eating with us asked for his eggs poached hard. They came out easy. After sending them back to the kitchen it took 15 minutes to get back a new dish. The second dish was mostly cold and the eggs were still runny. He had a few dollars taken off his bill so it was nice the problem was acknowledged but what a disappointment. Overall the food was tasty but the serving staff need some serious training in the art of waiting tables. (Coming from a previous server).
Habitat Restaurant. I enjoyed my dinner at the restaurant, good service, friendly servers. The presentation of the food was appealing but my ravioli was too saltyand it affected my ability to taste the mushrooms.
Tess and Alex go to Habitat and love the Oysters!. What a nice dinner!I’m always worried about restaurants in hotels because they always seem to try to hard and not really deliver anything worth while. This was not the case here.I liked the modern but comfortable decor and we were sat by the window which was nice, except I could see where they keep there wine and it was a bit of a mess, but not a big deal. Our server was very friendly and polite and did very well but seemed to forget about us after dessert when we were ready to pay, but again, small things. Now for the food. We started with the Oysters and they were probably the best oysters I’ve ever had. They tasted so fresh I could have sworn we were right by the ocean and not the mountains. Pure heaven, I’d go back and just order a boatload of those. We also had the Stuffed Elk Meatballs which were also really good. I enjoyed that they were almost like a sausage and had a centre of salty stilton cheese that went really nicely with the saskatoon berry sauce. It also came with a side of puffed wild rice to dip them in which was different but added a nice crunch. For dinner I had the special which was a Sable Fish with Tequila Lime Sauce, Shrimp and Quinoa which I really enjoyed. Alex had the Crisp Skin Brome Lake Duck Breast which was one of the most perfectly cooked ducks I’ve seen in a while. The skin was nice and crispy and the Apricot sauce that came with it was delicious. For dessert we had the Triple Chocolate Fudge Bomb which was rich and chocolatey and had a crunchy caramel dust with it. A very decadent finish to a very decadent meal. It was a very nice evening all around.GO.
Poor. Were not allowed to sit where we wanted. Although I have an accent clearly was assumed I was a tourist. In fact a business meeting. 1.5 hours for a lunch. Steak war cold, garlic bitter and over cooked. Steak was also chewy. Very pricey. I did not need to know half way during service she was training and been there 2 weeks. Where was the support staff for her? We were even given dinner menus and when ready to order told sorry wrong menu. Very poor. Of the 70 plus restaurants in Canmore I would have expected much better.20 Jul, 2014Poor. Were not allowed to sit where we wanted. Although I have an accent clearly was assumed I was a tourist. The service and food were excellent! We had two babies in our party and our waitresses went out of their way to accommodate us. The food was beautifully prepared and tasted (most importantly!) great!
