I’ve been coming here for 30 years with my family. The steak is excellent. The costs are not. They are getting worse, and zero substitutions are allowed (example: upgrade to a Caesar, etc) Example: came with a buddy a month ago, had one beer each, a steak and a Caesar salad. Bill: $115.00 to me that’s expensive. Came with family yesterday, had an appy of deep fried zuccini. It came on a small plate, 6 tiny 1/4 pieces of zuccini. Cost: $10.00. I realize it’s fall in Alberta but, c’mon, zuccini is 91cents a pound at superstore this week- why such frugal servings? Called next day because I was wondering if there was new ownership- and wanted to discuss reasonably about my dissatisfaction with the owner. No, not new ownership, but reached a very defensive and quickly verbally aggressive man with an Italian accent. I started out politely, but he quickly said: you don’t like it- you don’t come here. Matador pizza is much cleaner (and the seats are not covered in 35 years of grime and hair oil) and Nicks pizza and steakhouse has much better service. If you are not happy at either of these places, they actually have the business skills to make it right. Save your money, I highly recommend either of those two.
I’ve been ok with their food but never seen it as anything special. Calling this place a steakhouse would be an overstatement. The main dining room is in serious need of a facelift or modernization. There were food particles from I don’t know how long ago stuck in the fabric & between the seat & back of the dining chairs. Carpet smelled & looked as though nothing has been done to it since the smoking bylaw was implemented. Have watched the owner, assuming it was him, berate staff countless times in front of myself & friends while dining in the pub area. This is a place with such negative energy & I haven’t returned there since 2010. I still don’t intend to ever go there again. On a positive note, waiting staff there have always been pleasant.
A hidden gem, it’s been around forever and is classic 70’s style. Some of the best pizza and steak you can find in the city, definitely worth checking out if you have never been.
This restaurant is a legend! It’s old and has retro 70’s decor but is so comfortable; which adds to the entire experience. They have an open flame grill which made my filet mignon absolutely perfection. The food overall is fantastic!! I recommend the calamari, crab, pizza, lasagna…I could go on and on. The service is just as fantastic!! The owner is one of a kind and is a very special man. He is kind, generous, and down to earth. He made a special point to come to our table to introduce himself. If you’re looking to escape the boring suburban chain restaurants, then come here to a Calgary classic.
To whom cares about the crazy review by a someone named Richelle who real name is Haley attempted characterization assassination against this restaurant came to work high everyday could not focus and concentrate properly customers complaining about her, boyfriend came in swearing and screaming at her from across the restaurant why she wasn’t done work yet and over all drove us crazy for a couple weeks. And after one week of working told us she was going on a trip, the trip she Took was to meet some person that she had met online she said . We did not ask her back to work when she came back for obvious reasonsDefamation of character is illegal on social media and we’ve already called our lawyer .
Food is decent but it is no longer the revered steak house it once was. Over priced, same dcor as the 80ies, pretty sure stuffed baked potatoes are frozen.
I get take out from here all the time. Their pizza is some of the best in the city! I don’t go into the restaurant very often because it’s not a very nice looking place, but the delivery guys are awesome! The house dressing is always a hit, and they have pretty good wings as well.
