I absolutely love this restaurant, some of the best Japanese food in calgary. I just recently came back from a trip to japan and i can honestly say this is very close to the real deal. Some dishes are quite expensive but its honestly totally worth it. Our server was also very very nice. Extremely recommended

Had an excellent meal here. The chirashi ($24) had a really good variety of fish on top, was beautifully presented and rice was well seasoned. My husband had the Katsu curry don ($15). The serving size was plentiful, the curry was rich and tasted exactly like how a classic Japanese style curry should. The staff was very friendly. The food came out in a timely fashion. Something I would like to note that there was only one server on in a mostly full restaurant. She did an amazing job, no ones water glasses were empty, and she seemed to be very attentive with each table. We will be returning.

After our favorite local sushi restaurant closed we began seeking somewhere new and close and then found Anzu. Staff is always super friendly and polite!! The food ranges day to day I find, the sushi rice too. Very good though. I find it rather pricey for size of the sashimi (and comparing it price and size wise to the notorious Shikiji just down the street) and other dishes, however if you go there for lunch or a dinner special you get the bang for your buck. Cute atmosphere! Painful bench seating! Lunch specials only for us other than that not a bad little hub.

Adorable restaurant with incredibly friendly staff and decent food. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive, and provided amazing service throughout the evening. My one friend got the Chicken Katsu Don ($14), my other friend ordered the Hile Ton Katsu ($14), and I tried the Tempura Udon ($14). The Chicken Katsu came with miso soup, which was nicely prepared. Our food arrived quickly, and portions were fairly generous. The broth of my noodle soup was flavourful, but perhaps a little too salty. The tempura was very good (the batter was crispy and everything was cooked nicely), but I admit I’ve had better elsewhere. The Chicken Katsu again was a bit too salty for my liking, but the chicken was tender and juicy and the sauce (apart from the salt) was tasty. The Hile Ton Katsu was also good, but the salad it came with was a little bit underwhelming. I might stop in again if I’m in the area and in the mood for some Japanese comfort food.

Great tiny restaurant with very nice welcoming staff that’s near my house. I ignored this restaurant for whatever reason until tonight when I decided to try it. They gave me a free appetizer of shitake rolls. I had the Pork Katsu which is good comfort dish for me and a side of Avocado rolls. The sushi rice seemed cooked and seasoned well. I’ll be back sometime soon to try more items off the menu. They have an oysters and Sake special on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays that I’d like to try.

I tried the dinner menu couple times and they were great but never got the chance to try out the lunch menu until now. I only wish my office is much closer to this fantastic restaurant. Love their Yaki Saba lunch combo, decent price and the food was awesome. I would love to come back more often!

Food ranges from average to excellent, but not all dishes are of good value price-wise. Ordered quite a few dishes with 2 friends at dinner. The highlight was the sablefish — nice miso flavour and cooked exactly right! The katsu curry and tonkotsu ramen were good but I’d prefer stronger flavour elsewhere. The toro sashimi and special scallops sushi were good but could have gotten same quality at cheaper price elsewhere. The amaebi (shrimp) sashimi was nice and fresh! Same with the The soft shell crab and the agedeshi tofu were both very average. I had the sesame pudding for dessert which was too sweet for my taste with maple syrup, I would have preferred the plain pudding without the syrup. The pudding itself is very nice! The bill was $40 per person without any drinks, so it’s pretty stiff in pricing. I would return for the sablefish and the pudding but not often due to the high price.
