Rushed Service. Waitress came 3 times in a very short time to ask if we were ready to order. Explained that the group had not been together for some time and were in no rush, did not seem to make a difference. Main course came when half way through the appetizer. Were asked if ready for the bill before being offering a second cup of coffee. Food was good, service not.
Had to check it out.. We decided to try Bistro Alma after reviewing the restaurants in the U of C neighborhood. We had been at the Redwater Rustic Grill and Jurees Thai Restaurant before and wanted to try something else. Bistro Alma’s kitchen consists of a fridge and two microwave ovens. My paella was dry; the mussels were very dry. My wife’s Butter Chicken was OK. The wine, which came in a bottle, was better. We do not plan on returning to Bistro Alma again.
Positives: I ordered the lentil soup with a roasted red pepper & falafel panini. Both were very good! The soup & sandwich portions were large & very flavorful. You could tell that the roasted peppers were not was a jar :DThe service was good & attentive. I also had my baby with me and the high chair provided was clean & nice.Negative: I had to pay $6 for 1 1/2 hrs of parking!! That’s insanely expensive. Most parking lots in the city offer a flat rate for all day parking at that rate. My recommendation, don’t drive to eat this place. My dinning partner ordered a salad & there was a live (but injured) fly in it. Needless to say, she didn’t finish her salad. Yuck!
Awesome Place to Eat. Super sexy staff with amazing food!! Especially a server named Josh!
Decent. I was duped into going here by some advertising, claiming that this place offered up contemporary, gourmet meals in a modern environment, so off I went. The restaurant was located in the U of C which didn’t give me much confidence about the quality, as I highly doubted a bunch of mediocre teenage cooks could offer me anything more than a burger and a side order of tater tots, but I checked it out anyways. As soon as I entered, the restaurant was completely diserted, and the teenage waitress awkward and silent, but I went ahead and ordered a basic shrimp dish hoping that it would be satisfactory. Unfortunately, it was anything but. The shrimp tasted like it had been previously frozen, the croissant was overly buttered and tasted like somebody ran out to the conveinience store to buy it a few minutes before the dish was slapped together, and the overall quality of everything else was sadly lacking. However, I will give credit where credit is deserved: The dessert was very good, and I left with a better taste in my mouth. If you are planning to go here, do not expect anything at the quality of River Cafe or the Coup, but it may appeal to some.
