Cheap eats. Oriental Wok offers a very budget minded combo, you can pick 2 out of the following 4 items : fried noodles, fried rice, pork dumplings, and egg roll.Packed into a half clam, I picked fried noodles and dumplings. In my first review, expect Oriental Wok to be your average chinese mall food, nothing fancy/spectacular but cheap. The budget minded combo came to $3 (incl gst), and it was filling. I know there are better offerings in Mac Hall, but at $3, and for those that are budget conscious and don’t mind average food, this does hit the spot.19 Oct, 2012Newly renovated exterior. I noticed throughout summer, Oriental Wok was closed due to renovations of the exterior. Now that it is open, I thought I’d give it another go around – I’ve tried Oriental Wok before, usually the won ton noodle soup with extra noodles, and I’ve found it to be decent. This day though, I tried their Combo 1 large, $6.95 incl gst.Combo 1 comes with fried rice, fried noodles, and your choice of one side; I picked ginger beef due to the fact that one of the cooks brought out some freshly cooked ginger beef from the back.fried rice – somewhat bland, it looked soya sauce dark but it was bland. It also contained frozen mixed veggies – I’m not a big fan of frozen mixed veggies in fried rice, it makes the whole thing seem very ‘white man – ish’.fried noodles – I found it contained a good mix of noodles, bean sprouts, and cabbage. Not bad, typical mall chinese food.ginger beef – ok, but inconsistently cooked – some pieces were tender while some were overcooked. It would indicate to me inconsistent cutting of the beef. I did like the sauce, it was sweet yet had some heat to it, plus a hint of ginger. At $6.95, it is a good deal, and it was very fulfilling. Just don’t expect anything too spectacular; decent mall chinese food.
