Just like Grandma’s House. The smell, the taste, the flavours – MMMMMMM!!!!!The will take phone orders. One slice of their bread will fill you up for the morning, two slices and you are stuffed. All natural, no preservatives. check out their website. In Edmonton as well.
Best Bakery in town?. A short review!I have had the pleasure to patronize Prairie Mill Bread Co. on many occasions and have never had issue with their products.Fresh, often still warm, their heavy set breads (traditionally the way they should be) are a flavourful experience to be savoured. The Mill offers many different varieties of bread including those for the gluten free conscience. Though on the very top end of the bakery price listing, the breads don’t disappoint. Make sure to try out their sample plate!
Be warned: be there early for the best fresh bread. Any later than maybe 10 AM and the bread will have cooled, making it a little denser. I go there lots, great bread, amazing varieties, and they open pretty early. I was amazed when they were open on my way to school one day, so I bought a cinnamon bun. You’ll need a pretty big appetitetp finish one on your own. Amazing little bakery, on par with another favourite, the Great Canadian Bagel in the same strip mall.
Very nice bread and friendly service. This isn’t a place to go to if you’re in a raging hurry, so slow your horses or go elsewhere. There was one lady running the show when I was there, but I was more than happy to wait to get my chosen loaf sliced while she sliced up some lovely apple-cinnamon-something bread for sampling. I got this very hearty 9-grain bread of sorts – 2 lbs and 4 oz if I recall. It was a brick, but a tasty, fresh, wholesome brick.I’ll go back; it’s too good to ignore nice bread like this.
Great all year, but you have to try the white chocolate cranberry bread they only make at Christmas warmed with some butter – wow
Unique Bread. Prairie Mill Bread Company offers some unique types of bread. Depending on the time of the day you visit, what’s available can range from traditional style (various grains, including a gluten-free spelt) to more specialty creations that incorporate fruits, vegetables and cheeses. It’s even nice that they have a day-old section for discounted products as their bread is on the higher price range than what I’m used to paying for bakery quality products.I have to give Prairie Mill some really great respect in their selection. Being able to provide bread that suits gluten-free and other dietary requirements, as well as offering a different variety makes me realize why they’re so appealing.Unfortunately, for my own tastes, everything I’ve tried there from their traditional loaves, sourdoughs, and even the specialty breads, have been too heavy and dense. I personally don’t find it enjoyable, but know many others will. If you love a different variety of bread, check them out.
We drive a long way for thier bread. Hands down my favourite Bread in the city and the Sour dough is a close second to the Boudin Sourdough Bakery in San Francisco we take bread seriously in our house I have been known to alter my flight plans to go through San Francisco just to bring Boudin bread home (they have an outlet right in the airport after you are through security) do not expect fancy cakes or creamy stuff and the product is fresh and you get what they made that day. I am not sure what the owner does by he always has the most wholesome looking and pleasant staff and they give out great samples. Well worth a visit
