Small Town Surprise!. After a bit of a rural road trip, we decided to head to Linden for some Won Ton soup. It was a place my parents had tried before and had said it was great. It certainly was! And it wasnt expensive at all! It also had that small town feel, both the good and the bad, but if youre out this way its definitely worth a visit! We had arrived at lunch time on June 10 and as it was a cold day, we all wanted a big, warming soup! The Hong Kong Restaurant offers up a very large bowl full of 7-8 large won tons that are easily two bites each, a generous amount of al dente broccoli, cauliflower and carrots (also two bites-sized), extremely tender pork slices all within a tasty broth that to me seemed like real chicken broth. All of this was only $6.99! Fantastic! The restaurant also has a buffet for lunch and dinner (averaging around the $10-12 mark). The buffet looked good and it was constantly being topped up, but it had a lot of fried ingredients and mostly meat dishes, so the soup was a nice choice if also wanting veggies. As for the decor, it was an interesting combination of pink and green walls, with ample seating placed well for a relatively small restaurant. Very cozy. And as far as I could tell, it was filled with locals. The kitchen was at the very back, behind the counter where you paid, but also where the only waitress was also answering the phone to take pick-up orders. She seemed to be a bit stressed out, but handled it well. Obviously someone with a lot of experience. We also found out that the restaurant was family-run with new owners. Theyre doing a great job, because on the two occasions I was there, the place was packed!Hong Kong Restaurant has a wheelchair ramp up to the front door, but the door isnt automatic so a bit difficult for one to enter. However, inside the tables are well spaced so getting to a table wouldnt be a problem. Unfortunately the bathrooms arent wheelchair accessible so overall this may not be the best choice.Overall, the experience was neat, in that since I wasnt a regular, I didnt get to participate in that fun banter with everyone who knows everyone else and was abruptly address when I went to pay, even though I had complimented the soup. Ive experienced this before in small towns, so not surprising. I would definitely recommend this restaurant as the food was great quality and the price was amazing! Will be sure to return when Im in that area again!
