Read some great this about this place, but those seem to be reviews of a Backstreet Pub and Pizza in another age. The celebrated Jamie Sandwich was tough, dry and left me wanting to order a side of flavour. Thumbs up for the French onion soup, though. The atmosphere showed signs of catering to a seedy demographic, when it could be improving the neighborhood as Pop’s Pub and Grill does around the corner. University students nearby have other pubs to name their regular spot.
Still has Character. This is a tough one to review, it is in need of updating, but I say that with mixed fillings. If they update they may lose the character of the this place. Backstreet West is just a good ole place to hang out and not worry about getting dressed up. Food is good pub food and service has never been bad to me.My rating is 7 mugs out of 10.
Kinda seemed dirty. People…. Kinda seemed dirty. People smoking right by the door. Jamie’s sandwich was a disappointment! Should be more like a 50%
Nice. There are very few things catering the mostly immobile university crowd, and it’s nice to have something that can exceed m&m meats chicken wings. I dig this place and the service was dandy on a Saturday or Sunday.
Go. Now. It’s worth the Wait!. Bottom line: you’re not going to get into this place on a Friday or Saturday night. It’s a tiny, tiny pub! But that should not deter you from trying. In fact, you should wait just to get a table so you can try the food! There’s a reason the University students frequent this little gem and it’s not because of the beer (Well, okay, maybe that’s partly the reason). The French Onion soup is the best soup I’ve ever had. Hands down. Golden trophy to Backstreet for this wonderful soup! And the Jaimie sandwich…. I can’t describe it adequately enough. It must be experienced to be appreciated. No deep fried, greasy, deep-fried standards most pubs have nowadays. And you’ll never miss them! Come early to get a table before supper, otherwise you’re waiting. But I promise it’s worth the wait!
This place is great. The food is awesome and the service is great too. It’s hard to find those 2 things together (especially the service part!) anymore. I would definitely recommend the west side Backstreet to anyone wanting a good lunch spot or pizza. Their pizza is rad (try the taco one!). They don’t deep fry anything there so don’t expect fries but their soup is always a good substitute.
Jamie sandwich!! :). Still miss the taste of your Jamie sandwich!!
