Food is great but the service is usually awful. If you order food from the front dining area it might take awhile but usually the service is okay. If you order a sub from the back be prepared to wait at least 20min. 4 times now I have ordered a sub and watched several people order after myself and actually get served before me. The last time this happenedfriends of mine who arrived after me ordered after me and recurved their food first. Then the woman serving us told me I had to change my order since they ran out of ingredients just then. When I asked why they didn’t make mine first since I ordered it first this they told me there were previous orders called in before mine which they had to make. I knew this was a lie since they were my friends. They didn’t apologize. Then at the till they said they were sorry I was angry and if I wanted my food earlier I should use their website. I plan to never go there again. It’s really too bad since places like this are hard to find in Lethbridge and I love supporting local businesses. I have given umami shop 4 chances and have had the same experience each time. Too bad since it is quite good food
First time sitting down to eat at this place. The food is so fresh and authentic. I love the clay bowls that keeps everything so hot. The Vietnamese subs were also delicious. The staff here, including the owner, Patricia, are all very knowledgeable and friendly. It’s a fun visit because they have every kind of rate ingredient here so you can browse while waiting for your food. A bit harder to bring kids because of the distractions and the size of the eating spaces and of course the menu is limited, but that is understanding given it is also a food shop and a cooking school, That’s why I didn’t give it a full 5, but the place does the three things as well as it can given its an all in one store/restaurant/cooking school. The vibe there is great as well. I left with a happy belly and a wonderful feeling that I could cook any ethnic food and find most rare ingredients here. Highly recommend this place!
Awesome place, very fresh and tasty food. Love the Vietnamese subs, i have to have one ….ok maybe two a week for lunch! Sushi is the best in town IMO, and always fresh. Very Friendly staff, just love this place! Keep up the excellent work!
Love that Umami offers gluten free ramen. Felt it wasn’t totally authentic, but close. Don’t love the dining area as the staff had prepped items on the table next to me and the staff wasn’t overly friendly either
Disappointing. Pushy, pricey, rude.
Made my shopping experience very uncomfortable. I went in to go browse….thinking it would have some stuff I would love to buy….but kept getting asked can I help you? I’m just browsing… I feel that they think your going to steal…..all I did was check the time on my phone….I will never go back in this stor……owner and workers are just cold and rude…Not a very warm and welcoming experience ….
I’ve wanted to love this store, ever since it opened a year ago, But the bristly service of the owner always leaves me with the feeling I am an inconvenience, rather than a welcomed customer. Their behaviour does not encourage my loyalty to their shop. They are attempting to do higher end food, which is admirable and welcomed here, but ultimately the quality doesn’t meet with the price point. I would love for this place to succeed in Lethbridge, but their customer service is their own worst enemy, to put it mildly. Good luck umami.
