It wouldn’t have even occurred to me to get a meal at T&T. Been to the market plenty of times in search of Oriental ingredients but it wasn’t until I was in the mall for preposterous busy boxing day that I had looked to it for a hot meal. Freshness was a given what with it being a grocery store, but variety was what I wasn’t expecting. There a lot of options for eats here. I went with a fried noodle bowl, but there’s plenty of steamed buns, and BBQ items to select from as well.I’d put the meals from T&T in a league above other grocery stores, the dishes have more individual prep, and more people seem to eat here than at a place like sobeys, so there’s a higher rate of turnover. food spends less time under hot lamps and more time on a flattop grill. This would be pretty average fare if it weren’t for the price. Two can share a filling fried noodle dish for ten bucks or so. It’s excellent value. I think so far as grocery store eats go T&T is only second to Costco, the undisputed king of the foodcourt, but it’s a tight second.Definitely I would recommend T&T over any of the other eateries on West Ed’s Bourbon St.
If you haven’t tried a mango sponge cake from t&t yet, your missing out. It’s actually really done well. They have stepped up their game. There’s alot of choice here. The best part is they sell by the slice, so if you’re not sure if your going to like it, buying by slice won’t break your wallet. My brother had told me if you order it in advance to pick up you get a discount. If you like mango, light and airy sponge cake with whip cream, you gotta have this.
I like the variety of fruits and veggies, noodles, and other staple foods that are harder to acquire in more mainstream supermarkets. That said pricing can be variable, and it often feels like a bit of a foreign experience if you’re used to shopping at more mainstream supermarkets, so be prepared for things to be a bit different.
