Great food and exceptional service. Expect it to be busy, but its worth the wait. You wont eat like this at a chain! Support your local businesses!
An edmonton classic. Great brunch, sandwiches and the poutine is beyond words. Especially the brisket. I would also recommend trying any of their desserts. The banoffee pie is insane, as well as the 5 layer chocolate torte. Will continue to visit regularly!
Can I have brunch here everyday? Love the eggs bennies here and the diner potatoes omg. I can eat it all day long. An awesome selection of brunch items and you can’t really go wrong. I tried the diner hash on another occasion and absolutely loved itttttttt. Everything is so filling and the portions are great. What an awesome way to start your mornings!
Definitely a place worth checking out for breakfast and the lunch items sound delicious too! Have been here a few times for breakfast and I’ve never been disappointed
Breakfast for lunch? Always! Urban Diner is a place you can consistently come back to and expect awesome food. I recommend everyone to try it (if you haven’t already).
Just awesome. This is one of those hipster diners, not a traditional greasy spoon, but its a good one, and it doesn’t get so hipster that it ceases to have the humble and low-key touch that you come to expect and appreciate from a diner. But being a little bit more hip than your neighborhood greasy spoon the food is more conscientiously prepared. Its quite high quality, especially for the price point, which isn’t at all expensive. they have interesting rotating menu items, but the regular food is on point to. lots, if not all of the ingredients are prepared in house and it shows, it is very fresh food. as a side note, they dress the fries with a really zesty seasoning. I am not really sure what it is, some kind of citrus infused salt I think, but its delicious and it is so cool when a place takes a staple like fries and puts a good spin on them.the atmosphere and decor is really good too. definitely in keeping with the diner appeal. it has a very community feel that I think is amplified if you live walking distance from it, but in general I think it would be a good place to go on a date or with an old pal to catch up, there’s just something very familiar, intimate, casual, and comfy about the place.I was inclined at first to give a 4.5 rating to urban diner, but upon giving it some though there wasn’t actually anything I can complain about, or reasonably criticize with the place. I think the food could obviously be better but I think at the price its as good as you can get, if you want better than this you are stepping up a price bracket. Yet there are places much steeper than urban diner that come in far behind in food quality. Its hard to get this kind of value for your dining these days. Its a great eatery and I highly recommend it!
Recently Ive been on a dire hunt for milkshakes, which is an added opportunity to branch out from the typical Denny and Ihop joints. In this case, we had our eyes on visiting Urban Diner on a Friday night, by no means is this a new establishment, but its one of the few that has a special treasured spots for university students. Urban Diner has that retro feel that brings back memories of watching That 70s Show; totally rad – totally retro. Serving breakfast all day with the added home cooked comfort dishes, not to mention the case of desserts out on display, youre bound to find something to soothe your soul. We ordered 2 of the 3 blue plate specials of the night. Flemish Beef Stew – 5/5 – The beef chunks were so tender and moist, the thick stew was packed with flavor having a subtle hint of ale, being rendered down to such a rich and gravy like consistency then served on top of creamy mashed potatoes. This by far is the definition of comfort food. Fried Chicken Drumsticks with a side of Mac and Cheese. – – years ago they had fried chicken on the menu and it was the biggest rave, fast forward to this dining experience and it was WAY below standard. Fried chicken was bland, the breading came off the chicken entirely once you took a bite, which was bland and as dry as ever. The only hope in this dish was the mac and cheese. The cavatappi noodles mixed with cheddar cheese brought out the kid in me. Mac and cheese alone, 5/5 Brisket Poutine – ($9.75) – 3/5 -Cheese, gravy, chunks of brisket served on fresh fried fries, yes please, sounds great. Too bad the brisket was dry which made it quite chewy. Pass on the protein. Chai Milkshake – ($6) – 5/5 – Its a friggen chai milkshake, this was worth all the calories. Totally biased though since I have a slight obsession with chai and was in a deep craving mood for milkshakes. Id honestly stop by Urban Diner just for this milkshake alone. Tbh: salivating as I type while thinking about said milkshake.Service was great, our server was friendly and personable, while not missing a beat with refills and taking plates away. Poutine came out quick but entrees took a little longer, staggering out 20 minutes after. Atmosphere is casual and homey, not bad for family meals or a place to catch up. I totally recommend coming for a milkshake!
