Disappointed. For all the years we have have been taking weekend getaways to Whistler we’ve never gone to Hy’s. We decided to to have a go last week. Sorry to say that for a restaurant with high expectations we were disappointed. I had expected a high-end steakhouse but the restaurant had the appearance of being a bit haggered. We were sat at the bar as it was indeed busy. It was very noisy, more barlike than a restaurant, and our seat was so close to the other tables it felt like we were all part of the same party. Then the food came. My wife ordered prime rib. Presentation was non-existent and while prime rib is meant to be ‘pink’ her cut was actually cool to the touch. A mention of this had her meal re-‘heated’ but that certainly ruined the moment. I ordered a filet mignon. I have had many steaks in my life and this one ranks as one of the most poorly seasoned, bland examples ever. Again, very disappointing. Both meals were only half eaten and mention of the short comings only resulted in a ‘credit’ to be used at a future date. We likely will never use that credit. When you play in the big leagues you are expected to perform as such and for a restaurant with the stature of Hy’s along with being located in a world class region like Whistler we found the performance to be very, very poor indeed.
I was dissatisfied to learn that Hy’s allows infants and children into the dining room during dinner hours. When you go out for a $300+ dinner, having a screaming infant at the table next to you ruins the ambiance. All of the food was absolutely delicious apart from the Caesar salad, which had too much dressing.
Stunning place! Perfect food and great service 🙂 recommend the French onion soup!
The Perfect Steak!. Was in Whistler for an anniversary get away and was recommended to check out Hy’s for a good meal. I had fairly moderate expectations for this place seeing as it has mixed reviews but one bite into my Sirloin steak and I think I went to heaven…everything went into slow motion after each bite as I savoured the delicious char-grilled taste, the tender and flavourful meat…even the baked potato side was delicious! Went perfectly with a glass of red. Our server was quite the funny man and gave us the right about of service without being too obtrusive. Great cozy atmosphere. Hope the one in downtown Vancouver will be just as good!
After having two other places close early, Hy’s shows that thet exist for the customer and not their staff. Great. Food expertly prepared and great service in a relaxing setting.
Great steak and lobster, French onion soup was AMAZING! I want to go back especially for that soup.
Delicious Food & Service. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner while staying in Whistler. The food is to die for!! The wine list is impressive. We could not finish our garlic mashed potatoes as there was too much. The potatoes were delicious, melt in your mouth delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection as was the side of broccolli. Our waiter was great. We had reservations and were seated right away. We had our drinks within minutes of sitting down. We will definitely go back to Hy’s. Excellent food and excellent service in a great atmosphere.
