Went in for the first time on my lunch break. It’s such a cute little grocery store that carries tons of local products. Came in with the soul purpose of getting a sandwich and saw a huge pack of fresh corn tortillas which were made locally. This is exciting because this weekend I’m hosting a Mexican night. I kept poking around and came across all natural blackberry margarita mix sweetened with agave. This was wonderful to see. For lunch I picked out the turkey panini which was delicious, the bread is so light and almost flaky and the flavors much more enjoyable then other sandwiches I’ve had In the area. I will be going back.
Neighbourhood landmark. Get here before 3:45!!. Bread offerings are mostly very, very good. I pick up bread here at least 3 times monthly. I like the rye varieties that I have tried and that they have sodium-free breads. The pastry counter part of the bakery has changed over the past 7 months steering away from traditional english squares and such and going with more light and flaky european varieties. Some aren’t bad, but the croissants are just overly sweetened. I didn’t love what they offered before and I cannot say I love the new ones either. Check-out service is always very polite although they can get backed up during lunch and other rush times. Also, there are things in the shop that are not priced/labelled. The seemingly high turn-over rate of staff leaves me wondering.
Good grocery, OK bakery. I like Inno Bakery better as a grocery store than a bakery. They do a large range of baked-in-house bread products, everything from Portuguese rolls to a couple dozen varieties of bread to sweet pastries. The loaves lean a bit to the white-flour end of the spectrum, but Inno throws in ethnic specialties like challah (Jewish egg bread) and foccacias. I was happy to pick a seeded loaf from the day-old rack in the back for $1.60. The place was steady busy on a Monday afternoon, so it’s obviously popular with the Coquitlocals. I found the dry goods side of Inno more interesting. It’s got lots of gourmet dried pastas, fancy exotic stuff in jars and a fair bit of funky chunky hippie food. Inno makes its own granola, like Terra. I’d compare their range of bakery products to what Terra has at its flagship stores. Only I like Terra’s better.
